Welvista A nonprofit providing free medicine to uninsured adults & dental care to underserved children in SC. Food or Medicine?

As costs of prescription medicines continue to rise and the numbers of uninsured reach all-time highs, providing a cost-effective source for life-sustaining and life-saving prescription medications becomes critical to the low-income uninsured. The number one chronic illness in children is tooth decay, 51 million school hours annually are missed due to dental related pain or infections. Through education, prevention and restorative dental services and access, Welvista makes a difference. Welvista exists to provide prescription medications at no cost to the low-income uninsured. That is the stark choice that more and more low-income uninsured individuals face. No individual should have to choose between food or medicine.

The Dorothy D. Smith Charitable Foundation has awarded a grant of $20,000 to Welvista for Medication Assistance Pharmacy (MAP) Support. We are deeply grateful for the Foundation’s generous investment in our mission and continued partnership in helping underserved South Carolinians access essential medications. This support helps MAP meet the growing need for generic albuterol inhalers, a rescue medication for our patients managing chronic respiratory diseases. Ensuring access to albuterol inhalers is especially important, as gaps in access to this essential medication can lead to worsening symptoms and increased risk of acute exacerbations.

We're excited to spotlight Dr. John Bedingham, whose passion for helping patients achieve healthy smiles is evident in every visit. A graduate of Wake Forest University and the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, Dr. Bedingham completed advanced residency training caring for medically complex patients and individuals with special needs.

When he's not in the dental office, you'll likely find him hiking, running, spending time with family, or exploring South Carolina with his fiancΓ©e and their pug, Waffles. Thank you, Dr. Bedingham, for the compassionate care you provide to the communities we serve! πŸ’™
