Thinking about keeping bees?

There’s so much more to it than putting a hive in your yard and checking on it once in a while.

Learn first. Take a class, do your research, and be ready to put in the work! Remember, these are valuable lives you are taking on!

When harvesting, it is important to know how much honey to leave the in the hive for winter! If you take too much honey, they won't have enough to sustain the colony throughout the cold months.

Being respectful to their production is key. Happy National Honey Month!

Happy National Honey Month! 🍯

Honey isn’t just for tea... Try drizzling it over biscuits, toast, yogurt or fruit! (Personally, I add a bit to my morning smoothies) There are so many ways to enjoy honey!

How do you use your honey? Share a photo of you and your honey with us. We’d love to share/repost your photos throughout the month and see how honey makes its way into your kitchen.

And, of course, our bottles are available for sale!

Happy National Honey Month from BBH hives to your home! 💛

Happy National Wildlife Day!

Bees are part of a much bigger ecosystem... and sometimes wildlife reminds us just how connected we all are. These photos show one of the local hives after a visit from a curious (and hungry) bear! While bears can cause some serious damage to beehives, they’re simply following their natural instincts and looking for an easy meal. Honey, bees, and bee brood can all be irresistible to a hungry bear.

Beekeeping isn’t always about protecting our hives from wildlife—it’s about learning to coexist with it.

So many little lives, all working together. There's something pretty special about a healthy and busy hive.

Bee Fact Monday

Honey bees aren’t looking for a fight—they’re protecting their home. Only when they feel threatened, do they become defensive.

A little understanding goes a long way when it comes to our buzzing neighbors!

This month, we’re giving a shoutout to Food to Power — one of the very first places where we were fortunate enough to have our beehives!

Food to Power is a Colorado Springs nonprofit working to create a healthier, local food system through food access, education, local food production, and composting. They help provide fresh food to our community while also turning food waste into something that can give back to the soil. We’re so grateful to have been a small part of their story and are proud to support the amazing work they continue to do right here in our community.

Please give them some love and check out their work!
