Mungo’s Italian Eatery is a family owned restaurant established in 1983. Owner,

Tony Mazzola, started his career at Andreino’s, which is now Dominic's on The Hill when he was only 14 years old. Charlie Mugavero, nicknamed Mungo, was the one who took Tony under his wing and showed him how the restaurant business works. Then when Rich & Charlie's opened its first establishment in University City, Charlie took Tony with him and showed Tony how to wait tables and run the kitchen by the time he was 16. Charlie was like a big brother to Tony and taught him everything about the restaurant business. “Mungo taught me to keep my mouth shut and my ears open,” explains Tony. Tragically, Charlie and his wife were killed in a plane accident in 1971 when they were on their way to Puerta Vallarta for Charlie’s 33rd birthday. So in 1983, Tony Mazzola opened his first restaurant in Belleville at 4417 West Main Street and decided the only appropriate name for the restaurant would be Mungo’s, after his mentor and dear friend Charlie Mugavero. “I just want to make Mungo proud. It’s not about the money, it’s about making good food in honor of Charlie,” Tony says. Mungo’s has been in 9 locations throughout the years since 1983. Everywhere we go, people follow.. Locations include: 4417 West Main St. in Belleville, 4 Club Centre Court in Edwardsville, 2400 Country Ln off Hartman Ln (AKA The Barn) in Shiloh, 1620 Lebanon Ave at the Lake Christine Plaza in Belleville, “Anthony’s” at 6980 West Main St in Belleville, Kings Point Racquet Club in West Belleville, 525 Lincoln Hwy in Fairview Heights, 1334 Central Park Dr in O’Fallon, 100 E Main St in Collinsville. Tony Mazzola is a man who is extremely passionate about what he does. His goal when you walk into Mungo’s is to provide amazing service, delicious food, and an overall unique and personal dining experience. The Mungo’s motto is ‘OFTEN IMITATED, BUT NEVER DUPLICATED’ for a reason. Our establishment really has become a staple in the Southern Illinois area and it’s all because of the support from our loyal customers. Now, we are very delighted to become a part of the Collinsville area and are excited to see what the future continues to hold. Thank You Collinsville for welcoming us into your community!
