π§ WIS 40 / US 12 CONSTRUCTION UPDATE β COLFAX π§
There is quite a bit happening with the WIS 40/US 12 project over the next few weeks, so we wanted to separate what will be happening in the Village of Colfax from work occurring elsewhere along the project.
IN THE VILLAGE OF COLFAX:
Beginning the week of August 3, crews will be milling pavement through Colfax, with work in town currently expected later in the week.
The week of August 10, paving is expected to continue through Colfax.
The biggest impact will be at the WIS 40 railroad crossing in Colfax. WIS 40 is scheduled to close at the railroad beginning Monday, August 10, with a signed detour in place. The current traffic-control schedule shows the closure running approximately August 10β22.
The railroad work is currently scheduled in stages:
β’ CN signal work β week of August 3
β’ Railroad track replacement β week of August 10
β’ Roadway approaches β week of August 17
There will be NO PARKING on 5th Avenue while the railroad detour is in effect. Please help us keep the detour route clear.
There will also be a 12-foot maximum-width restriction for traffic using the railroad detour. Advance warning signs are planned on WIS 40 and WIS 170 so oversized traffic can avoid reaching the detour before learning of the restriction.
Crews are also expected to adjust manholes through Colfax during the week of August 17.
OUTSIDE THE VILLAGE:
A number of other items in the project schedule are outside Colfax, including milling, paving and guardrail work north of the Village, work near CTH E, the WIS 29 overpass/Elk Mound area, and other portions of the US 12/WIS 40 project corridor.
Motorists should continue to expect flaggers, temporary pavement markings, lane/shoulder restrictions and construction activity throughout the project area.
The overall project currently has a completion date of October 24, 2026.
As always, schedules can change due to weather, railroad coordination and construction conditions. We will continue to share updates as we receive them.
