A NOTICE OF SERVICES AND SPECIAL BUSINESS HOURS
IN MEMORY OF KENNY
For 45 years, the B HIVE has been a place for cold beer, questionable decisions, good stories, great friends, and probably a few stories that are better left untold.
And it all started with Kenny.
With heavy hearts, we are preparing to say goodbye to the man who started this bar and, whether he intended to or not, created a place that would become part of so many people's lives.
Kenny liked to have fun. He liked his beer. He liked people. And we think he'd probably be a little annoyed if we got too sentimental about all of this. But after 45 years, there is simply no telling the story of the B HIVE without telling his.
On September 19th, 2026, the B HIVE will suspend our normal business operations while Kenny's family, close friends, and bar family and many friends gather to honor his life.
10:00 AM — Family-only graveside service
11:00 AM–3:00 PM — Close family and friends reception at the B Hive
5:00 PM — Bar closes for the day
The grill will be closed for the duration of the day's services, and we will only be operating for this private gathering for our community.
We sincerely appreciate everyone's understanding as we take this time to honor the man who gave the B HIVE its beginning.
And this is where we'd love your help.
We are planning a permanent memorial display for Kenny here at the B HIVE—something that will preserve his memory and his place in the history of the bar he founded.
If you've got an old picture of Kenny, we want to see it. If you've got a favorite memory, a funny story, a special note, or something that captures the Kenny you knew, we'd love to have it.
Dig through those old photo albums and shoeboxes. We're especially hoping to find photographs from the early B HIVE years, pictures of Kenny behind the bar, old regulars, celebrations, or those wonderfully questionable moments that could only happen in a dive bar. 🍻
Photos, memories, and memorabilia will become part of a memorial display that will be installed at a future date so that Kenny's story—and his role in starting this place—will always have a home here.
You can bring items or copies to the B HIVE, 170 West 4th Street, Colby, Kansas 67701. Please include your name and, if you can, a little information about the photo or memory.
Forty-five years is a hell of a lot of beers.
But more importantly, it's 45 years of people, friendships, stories and memories that started because one man opened the doors.
