They answered the call.
Tomorrow marks 25 years since September 11, 2001.
Twenty-five years.
Long enough that an entire generation has grown up knowing 9/11 only as something that happened before they were born.
We know the numbers.
343 firefighters.
60 police officers.
But they weren’t numbers.
They were fathers. Sons. Daughters. Brothers. Husbands. Partners. Friends.
They were people who kissed their families goodbye that morning without knowing it would be the last time.
And when everyone else was being told to get out, they went in.
They climbed toward an unimaginable situation carrying gear, helping strangers down stairwells, searching floor after floor, knowing there were still people above them who needed help.
They answered the call.
Tomorrow, you’ll find their names on our cups.
When you get yours, look up the name on your cup.
Learn who they were.
Find their picture. Read their story. Learn about the people they loved, the department they served, and what they did that morning.
Then tell someone else.
Because 25 years later, remembrance can’t only be about remembering what happened.
We have to remember who they were.
343 firefighters.
60 police officers.
403 people who answered the call. Many more that died in the years after from their time spent at Ground Zero.
May we never let their names become just numbers.
We remember. We honor. We say their names. 🇺🇸
