Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service provides programs, tools, and resources
that teach people how to improve agriculture and food production, advance health
practices, protect the environment, strengthen our communities, and enrich youth. The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is a unique education agency with a statewide
network of professional educators, trained volunteers, and county offices

. Some of our major efforts are in
mitigating drought impacts; conserving water use in homes, landscapes, and production
agriculture; improving emergency management; enhancing food security; and protecting
human health through education about diet, exercise, and disease prevention and management. AgriLife Extension demonstrates the latest technology and best practices to improve the
state’s food and fiber system, which serves all Texas consumers and contributes nine percent of the gross domestic product. Texas 4-H, our primary youth program, engages some 600,000 youth every year in learning projects, leadership development, and community service.

Some of our Master Gardeners recently had a workday at Guinn Garden in Cleburne. One stated, “It’s a great place to see what grows well in Johnson County.” Another said, “I love giving back to the community and working with wonderful gardeners”.
We hope you will take a stroll through the garden in the 200 block of S. Buffalo St, Cleburne.

It’s been a great week at ECCC Day camp. Today we learned about the parts of plants that we eat. The children brought cans of vegetables to be donated to Operation Blessing after our sorting activity. Jr. Master Gardeners, just like adult Master Gardeners, are always looking for ways to help their community.

Garey Wylie, one of our chapter's founding members and a past state president, served as our educational speaker tonight, presenting on Earth Kind Roses. Three original founding members of our chapter received Emeritus recognition: Paul Murphy, Elaine Bell, and Greg Marsh. We also awarded $9,000 in scholarships to four Johnson County High School graduates. The recipients of these scholarships were: Chris Schneider Scholarship ($3,000) to Kade Davis, Grandview HS; Ben Oefinger Scholarship ($2,000) to Savannah Riddell, Cleburne HS; JCMGA Scholarship ($2,000) to Maci Keith, Burleson HS; and Jack Rowland Scholarship ($2,000) to Lila Heiner, Godley HS (not present). Congratulations to these students.

We had some fun today in Johnson County at our Community Day at the Cleburne State Park! We spent time with children helping them create pictures from seeds. We encouraged them to take nature walks, rewarding them with plastic bugs-the best kind. We also shared samples of herbs grown at Guinn Gardens with adults.

The featured educational speakers at our monthly meeting last night were the proprietors of the Wild Birds Unlimited store in Burleson, who presented an engaging slideshow on hummingbirds and showcased various products, including hummingbird feeders and a liquid product that helps to extend freshness of hummingbird nectar. Additionally, they generously provided two door prizes, which were greatly appreciated.
