Belgium Beer Week & The Women of Belgian Beer World
Women and beer have been connected for thousands of years. Long before brewing became a commercial industry, women were brewing beer in homes, communities, and taverns. In many cultures, brewing was traditionally women’s work a craft passed from one generation to the next.
That tradition is still alive today!
At Belgian Beer World, we celebrate the women who are brewing, leading, preserving, and shaping Belgium’s incredible beer culture. From historic family breweries to modern brewers and brewery owners, their stories are an essential part of Belgian beer.
Val-Dieu — a historic abbey brewery rooted in centuries of Belgian brewing heritage.
Orval — one of Belgium’s iconic Trappist breweries, continuing a centuries-old monastic brewing tradition.
St. Bernardus — a legendary West Flanders brewery with deep family roots and a celebrated brewing heritage.
Kerel — bringing fresh energy, creativity, and a modern spirit to Belgian brewing.
Brouwerij Verhaeghe the family brewery behind the iconic Duchesse de Bourgogne, continuing generations of Belgian brewing tradition.
Just to list a few! From the women who brewed beer centuries ago to the women working in breweries today, their hands, knowledge, creativity, and determination have always been part of the story.
Beer history is women’s history.
So here’s to the women who brewed before us, the women brewing today, and the women who will brew tomorrow.
