As many of you know, we live and farm directly on the Nolichucky River, just a few miles from the restaurant. We do this on two separate pieces, on opposite sides of the river, about a mile and a half from each other. They have both been devastated by the flood, but the water stopped short of our house. We are still assessing damage, and won't even be able to access one of the properties for a good while.
We are trying today to make some decisions about several big things going forward for the time being, and we will keep everyone posted here, but we want to talk with our employees a bit more and get their input on what we do short term. With both bridges on either side of us compromised, and our farms needing to focus on cleanup, we want to make sure we are focusing our resources where it is best for everyone.
However, since timing is critical for people in need, we wanted to go ahead and put this out there while we figured out our own housekeeping:
We have a big flat open parking lot, a gravel overflow parking lot, and some accessible flat acreage directly behind County Line Pie, and we would like to offer these to anyone who needs to park a camper, or van, or whatever while you wait for a more suitable option.
We currently have power there, but not water, so if anyone needs to use our grounds, we will also make sure you have access to outside outlets, and if our water gets back on, we will open up the building so you can use the bathrooms. We also have a shop up there, where we can run more power, and has another small bathroom once they get the water back on. Hit us up here and we can coordinate.
We are still trying to wrap our heads around everything, but the outpouring of support we have watched in the community has been amazing. East TN is full of the most resourceful humans on the planet, and we will see this through.
The things we lost can be repaired or replaced. Many in our community are not as lucky, and our hearts go out to you.
Thank you all for your grace and patience as we pick up the pieces, and figure out next steps.
