Mission member recap! “Hello, I am Trent Noel. This year was my 2nd mission trip. I had so much fun this year and got to experience things that I may not experience again for a long time. My favorite part of the mission trip this year was how involved all of the kids were the whole time. When we first got to Alaska, there were definite “clicks” amongst the kids. As the week went on, they began to work as a team and break the comfort barriers with themselves and form new friendships. The kids did such a great job this year, I could not be more proud of them. Although some of our work sites were “not as advertised” the kids still worked hard and never complained. The lessons at the end of each day were very deep and touching. I am proud of everyone (including leaders) to be vulnerable and feel the presence of God in our lessons. Although this may be my last mission trip as a part of JUMP in Chinook, Alicia and I have a plan to start a JUMP program in Froid and plan on doing a joint mission trip with the JUMP family.”

Well it’s been a few weeks since we’ve gotten back and the crew has had time to process the trip so we’ll be starting our recap posts! First up we hear from Ean. This is Ean’s second mission trip with JUMP but he’s been a faithful member for over 4 years! “My favorite place to help at was the food pantry, especially hearing about the owner's stories of their pasts. My favorite place we went to was definitely the ocean, and the most impactful might have been the feet washing.”

Wow! Just Wow! Our mission team finished up their mission trip on Saturday evening when they returned to Chinook safely. To finish up the week the kids worked really hard on Thursday and Friday.
On Thursday the team went to Catholic Social Services Food Pantry to help move garden beds to the new facility. The team also finished preparing the new garden spaces for the upcoming summer plant season. After this the crew headed out to Holy Spirit Center to assist in revitalizing over grown trails and do minor maintenance around the retreat. The team worked tirelessly and continued to take on work without being asked.

On Friday the team helped the church where they were staying (Mountain City Church in Anchorage) to do painting jobs, yard work jobs and also help move furniture for a garage sale. The team was again able to accomplish more than the work site had planned to get done.

Overall, this team never ceased to amaze and showed Anchorage how a small community in Chinook can Love Like Jesus. The leaders are more than impressed with our kids and cannot wait to see what next year has in store. Over the summer we’ll be sharing highlights from the team members perspectives, so be on the lookout for those!

Tuesday/ Wednesday update! On Tuesday we helped out ACF (Pastor Johnny and Amy’s church!) with taking down some old lights on trees in their parking lot, as well as reorganizing and sanitizing toys in their children’s rooms. This stellar group made quick work of the projects and found ourselves with plenty of down time. When presented with some options of what to do, they JUMPED on the opportunity to make some sandwiches and hand them out downtown to the homeless population, even offering to pitch in their own spending money to buy supplies. The servant hearts in this group is astounding.

Wednesday this crew put in the manual labor clearing out old brush at ARCH an Adolescent Residential Center for Help. They blew away the maintenance staff by clearing out so much and loading trailers to take to the landfill they told us we did too much work! Without our help, they wouldn’t have accomplished that amount of work even by the end of August. This is this crew loving like Jesus!

Been slacking a bit, but we have officially started our mission trip in Anchorage, Alaska! We flew into Anchorage in the late/early morning hours on Saturday/Sunday. We had several first time flyers and they did amazing, and the sun was still shining when we landed. On Sunday we attended church services at the church we are staying at. After church we had some free time to visit the sights and attractions of Anchorage, another first for many as they got to see the ocean. Today, our crew went to Beans cafe, a soup kitchen that provides 3,000 meals per day. We worked behind the scenes to help make ready to eat meals for the struggling population of Anchorage. Check out the pictures to see which past JUMP leader surprised the kids (he’s not the moose, but that was a great surprise for day two as well!)
