Ross County Humane Society is offering a $500 Reward for Information on Suspected Arson Incident

Chillicothe, OH - February 14, 2024 -
The Ross County Humane Society, in collaboration with the Ross County Dog Warden, is offering a $500 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of those involved in a suspected arson incident that occurred on February 8th in the 1400 Block of Camelin Hill in Chillicothe, Ohio.

This distressing event tragically involved the deliberate setting on fire of a pit bull type dog named King, resulting in the animal's death. The Ross County Humane Society, deeply saddened by this senseless act of cruelty, is determined to seek justice for the innocent victim.

Executive Director Jenn Thomas expressed her shock and dismay, stating, "In my 10 years here, I think I've seen the worst of the worst and then something like this happens. It's senseless and cruel, and I hope that someone will come forward with information so we can get some sort of justice for King."

Following the incident, the Humane Society assisted in transporting King's body to OSU for a necropsy. Preliminary results indicate that the fire was likely the cause of death.

In a tragic turn of events, a second dog was discovered several days later, left on the property's porch. This smaller breed dog was found deceased, and the cause of death is yet to be determined.

The case remains under investigation, and the Ross County Humane Society urges anyone with information to come forward. Together, we can ensure that those responsible are held accountable and prevent such acts of cruelty from happening in the future.

For individuals willing to provide information, please contact the Ross County Dog Warden at 740-772-5929 or the Ross County Sheriff’s Department at 740-773-1186.
