Can we all agree that there’s nothing scarier than your boss walking up to you in the middle of a rush???

Last night, Kou came up to the host station mid-rush, and my immediate thought was, “Oh sht… what happened 😭”

Instead, he goes, “Did you ask Jeff if they wanted to sit outside? They usually like sitting outside, but I see they’re inside today 🤔”

And honestly, THIS is an owner who cares. ❤️

In the middle of a busy dinner rush, he noticed where one of our regulars was sitting and remembered where they usually prefer to be. It may seem like such a small detail, but those little things say so much about how much he cares about the people. He pays attention. He remembers. And he genuinely wants every customer to enjoy their time at Genkai. 🥹

And speaking of sitting outside… our newly refurbished patio is OPEN for dining! 🌿✨

THE STORY BEHIND THE SEÑOR CHARLIE ROLL
Some rolls are created from ingredients and inspiration. Others are created from memories, friendships, and the people who have become part of our GenKai story.
The Señor Charlie Roll is one of those special rolls. ❤️

It began with one of our longtime guests who has been dining with us since he was young. Over the years, we had the privilege of watching his life grow and change—from a young guest at our tables to getting married and eventually welcoming a beautiful baby boy named Charlie. To celebrate little Charlie and honor his family, a special roll was created. His grandpa gave it the perfect name, combining the playful title “Señor” with his grandson’s name—and the Señor Charlie Roll became part of our menu.
Today, that little boy has grown up beautifully, and his roll is still being served at GenKai.

That is one of the things we treasure most about being part of this community for so many years. We don’t just remember the dishes we’ve served—we remember the people, the families, the celebrations, and the children we’ve had the privilege of watching grow up.
So the next time you order a Señor Charlie Roll, you’ll know there’s a little piece of GenKai history behind the name. ❤️

THE SAUCE BEHIND OUR KARAGEH

What is Karageh?
Karageh comes from the Japanese cooking style of preparing bite-sized pieces of ginger marinated chicken, lightly coated and fried until crispy. It is tossed in our house-made sauce- a rich fermented red chili paste blended with minced garlic, sweet chili and spices topped with sesame seeds & green onions.

This versatile sauce can also be used for stir-fry, grilling, dipping, glazing, or just about anything that could use an extra boost of bold flavor. Gluten Free option is also available!
