Taiwanese Black Pepper Bun 胡椒餅

If you've ever visited a Taiwanese night market, it's likely that you've come across the fragrant waft of Taiwanese Black Pepper Buns. These magical parcels bursting with beefy flavor, scallion aroma, and molten au jus 🤣 were popularized by Fuzhounese immigrants from the juancun villages. They have since become a highlight of the Taiwnanese night market food scene!

The labor intensive lamination process makes these a rare find outside of Taiwan. But now you can get them at Minyoli during Sunday brunch only!  Made in house, these flakey buns full of beef, scallions, and black pepper are a mouthwatering and heartwarming start to the day.

Minyoli Dirty Martini 民有里髒馬丁尼

Our newest cocktail is Minyoli's first take on the classic dirty martini. To start, you get to pick between Roku Gin or Tito's Vodka as the base. After that, instead of olive brine, we are using the brine of pobuzi (Taiwanese capers from the Cordia plant) to instill a bold umami flavor profile. And in place of vermouth, we incorporate a mixture of junmai sake and house oolong tea bitters for a subtle floral aroma and complex herbal notes. A touch of lime juice and our house-made edamame shrub provide more dimensions to the savory backbone. This sophisticated and spirit-forward extra dirty martini is like none other, and you can find it in our current seasonal special menu as well as the Chicago Restaurant Week beverage pairing menu. In the future, we look forward to employing other kinds of seasonal brine in our dirty martini as ways to introduce different Taiwnanese flavors to our discerning customers.

Hola, mi nombre es Joseph, soy el corredor de comida y asistidor del mesero me dedico a limpiar las mesas y llevar la comida a las mesas, para mi es un gusto pertenecer a un gran grupo de compañeros que me han dado una acogida especial y qué me siento feliz de poder trabajar en el Restaurante Minyoli. Cuando no trabajo y tengo tiempo libre soy el chico de estar practicando varios deportes al aire libre pero él qué me gusta más es el futbol amo jugar y correr atrás de una pelota me desestreza y me hace olvidar de todo lo qué pasa alrededor, soy dinamico al pasear por las calles de chicago porque me gusta manejar bicicleta. Es la calidad de poder aprender la humildad mis padres, mi familia me hay inculcado ese valor desde niño, porque nadie es perfecto sólo tenemos qué mejorar como ser humano es lo qué me hace trabajar con más pasion y dar un buen servicio, sabiendo qué no estoy en mi país. Literal he comido todo en Minyoli es muy delicioso la comida pero mi plato favorito es el arroz con pollo Taiwanese y de tomar me gusta la boba y el ginger breeze, exquisito en mi paladar para terminar mi comida de Minyoli 😊🤤

Trenton has had a love for food from a young age thanks to his family. He never had an idea of how much he loved cooking til he started working at Minyoli. He moved from a small town in Texas to Chicago a few years ago. The change from a small town to a big city was quite the cultural shock. 😳 Outside of work, Trenton loves to play video games 🎮 and watch anime. He also loves playing D&D with his friends. When Trenton comes in as a customer, his order is fried chicken and a spicy tallow and a great drink from Robert. 👍

Every cat is a Minyo Cat!

To celebrate the omnipresence of cats in juancun we're continuing our monthly themed online cat pageant! The winning cat will be announced February 1st. The winner's picture will be featured on our IG and enshrined on the walls of Minyoli, plus their human will receive a complimentary dessert for a dine-in experience!

2026 is going to be the Year of the Horse according to the Lunar-Solar calendar, so this month's pageant theme is: LNY - Year of the Horse 🐴🧧

在上個世紀的眷村,野貓才是村子裡真正的大戶;眷村長大的小孩,都是聽著喵聲長大的。民有里的吉祥物 “民有貓” 靈感就是來自於這些陪伴我們大漢的貓咪。

Announcing the winners of our this month's MinyoCat of the Month! Here's our picks for best Holiday Food Coma!

Slide 1: 3rd place goes to Judy who got TKOed by a turkey + stuffing 1-2 combo.
Slide 2: In 2nd is Hugo, that has been sitting like that since second dinner.

Mandarin orange & Sichuan peppercorn "bingjiang" sorbet

In our newest seasonal sorbet, we are celebrating citrus flavors with an unlikely pairing: mandarin orange and Sichuan peppercorn. Despite what its name suggests, the Sichuan peppercorn is not a true pepper. It is actually in the citrus family, and it contains limonene-rich essential oil also found in peels of other citrus fruits. We carefully titrate ground Sichuan peppercorn to create a mandarin orange sorbet that has just the right amount of fruity sweetness with hints of umami, floral and piney notes, and a complex citrus aroma. We use the traditional Chinese"binjiang" method - blending rice with fruit and ice - to achieve a smooth and creamy texture without any dairy. It's a winter seasonal sorbet unlike any other!

Fish and Chips with pobuzi tartar sauce
炸魚薯條配破布子塔塔醬

Our newest Sunday brunch special is our take on the British street food classic - fish and chips. We coat premium Alaskan black cod in a vodka and beer batter. The result is an airy and crunchy exterior with a buttery and flakey interior. We add some fried batter, similar to the way tempura is made, for extra delicious crunchy bits. The chips is our sweet potato fries seasoned with Taiwanese sour plum powder. The sauce is a Japanese nanban-style tartar sauce, which includes chopped hard boiled eggs, diced cucumber and onion. We also add pobuzi (Taiwnanese caper) to the tartar sauce, making this the perfect dip for both the fish and the chips. A side of sesame ginger slaw completes this indulgent Sunday treat!

我們週日早午餐出限時新品囉! 台式炸魚薯條!我們用阿拉斯加產的銀鱈魚,裹上台啤伏特加麵衣,以炸天婦羅的技法,炸出外表膨鬆酥脆、裡面細緻滑嫩的炸魚。薯條部分我們配上台味十足的甘梅蕃薯條。而醬料我們則是自製南蠻風塔塔醬,並融入台灣破布子,鮮美爽口,沾炸魚薯條超級搭!
