Both seatings of tomorrow’s Vegan French Feast are sold out, BUT! We will have 160 or so croissants for sale in the morning. There will be almond, chocolate, croissant sandwiches, etc. Croissants take a little skill, and a lot of endurance, but I’m maybe even more proud of our Agnolotti, which takes skill, but requires more finesse than endurance. There aren’t many people coming yet to our Agnolotti+ Cannoli Dinner this Sunday, and I feel like you’re missing out! I love homemade pasta, and we make an aquafaba ravioli dough for the agnolotti, which is fantastic. There will be cashew burrata and bread, a beet, fennel, pecan salad with our housemade almond Parmesan, Arancini (cheese-stuffed, fried risotto balls), our meaty ground mushroom filled agnolotti in rich tomato, and fresh cannoli with lemon almond cream for dessert! There is only a 7:00 seating, the meal and service is $45, and you can make reservations at www.fancyplantscafe.com.

Both seatings of tomorrow’s Vegan French Feast are sold out, BUT! We will have 160 or so croissants for sale in the morning. The chocolate and almond croissants turned out great! We also have the classic, and of course a croissant breakfast sandwich as well. We also have fresh cinnamon rolls fresh out of the oven, quiche, carrot lox bagels, Mindful Baking GF pastries, Dark Matter Coffee, and more!

Also, most people are out of town, so your chances of getting one are a bit higher than last week. :D

This Saturday we’re cooking up our first ever ‘Through Japan & China’ themed dinner! There will be a stop off in Hawaii first, as .dave will make his signatureMacerated FruitPoke with Dried Okra Crumble and Corn Chips! Next is hot Kabocha Squash Croquettes with a soy and ginger sauce, then a Daikon Salad with Yuzu, Cured Carrot, Smoked Dulse, and Chrysanthemum Greens, a Yuba ‘Egg Drop’ Soup, our Peking-Style Tofu Buns with Cucumber Pickle, Scallion, and Hoisin Sauce, and lastly a Mandarin-Almond Milk Panna Cotta served in an orange with Thai Lime Leaf and Grand Marnier Glaze! This week we're doing a couple fun dinners, Saturday is our first 'Through China & Japan' Dinner, featuring poke (we'll stop in Hawaii first), Kabocha Squash Croquettes with a warm Soy-Ginger dipping sauce, a Daikon Salad with Yuzu-Kosho Vinaigrette, Cured Carrots, Smoked Dulse Leaf, and Chrysanthemum Greens, a hot Yuba (tofu skin) 'Egg Drop' Soup, Peking-Style Crispy Skin Tofu Buns with Scallions, Pickled Cucumber, and Hoisin served in Fluffy Little Buns, and a Mandarin-Almond Milk Panna Cotta scented with Thai Lime Leaf, and served in an Orange with Grand Marnier Glaze!

You'll get Shelling Peas cooked in Sherry with Smoked Eggplant Bacon and Shaved Almond Manchego Cheese, Spicy Fried 'Patatas Bravas,' Escalivada (grilled and chilled veggie salad in Italian-style Salsa Verde), Bocadillos (Mini Tofu Skin Sandwiches with Watercress and Garlic Aioli), a Catalan Style Mushroom Chowder with Saffron, and a rich decadent Almond Cake for dessert!

Just for this week, Fancy Plants Cafe hours will be a little different.
Tomorrow night (Wednesday) at 6:30 is our Vegan Cheesemaking Class, for which we'll be teaching how people how to make Cashew Cream Cheese, Mozzarella, Almond Ricotta, and Almond Parmesan. Dinner will commence featuring all 4 of these cheeses PLUS I'm making some of that good sourdough bread for the event that takes 3 days to make, but is so damn worth it. People will be taking home recipe books, cashew mozzarella balls, eating a feast, and it's $60. Still a few spots left if you want to come!

Thursday we'll be closing at 6:00, because I'm catering for the fantastic artists who will be performing at the second round of the 'Freedom From & Freedom To' series at Elastic Arts.
This project is founded by none other than Cristal Sabbagh, and involves pulling the names of musicians and dancers out of a hat, who then have to improvise a performance. It's amazing. I was fortunate enough to go to the first one, it was one of the most electric and surprising performances I'd seen in my 3 years in Chicago, and also my first time hearing Angel Bat Dawid, who is now blowing up as she's touring Europe, and the Washington Post critic named her 2nd best album of 2019, beating out Beyonce. Want us to cater your Thanksgiving Meal? We’ve heard your requests, and have put together an indulgent (and gluten free) dinner set for pickup! You’ll get a hearty Provençal herb crusted black bean and walnut loaf, mashed potatoes with black garlic gravy, house made cranberry jelly, spinach salad with a warm caramelized onion and smoked apple ‘bacon’ vinaigrette, and seared Brussels sprouts with chestnuts. The set is $38/person, and $33 if you order for 6 or more! We also have pumpkin pies for $18 each! Pickup times will be at Fancy Plants Café from 3 - 8 pm on Wednesday the 27th, or from 8 am - 3 pm on Thanksgiving day. Today I bought a bunch of wild mushrooms from in SF to bring back to Chicago! I’ve never seen matsutake, lobster mushrooms, candy cap, or the very rare cordycep (the vegan kind) in Chicago, so it’s time to load up the suitcase and cook a special 5 course mushroom dinner this Saturday! There will be pate with bread, a ‘lobster mushroom roll with matsutake, fried oyster mushroom calamari, carrot risotto with 2 kinds of chanterelle and cordyceps, and a candy cap mushroom cheesecake (a mushroom used primarily with dessert.’ There’s a 5:30 and 8:00 seating, tickets are already selling fast, they’re $45, and you can make reservations at www.fancyplantscafe.com. The 8:00 seating for this Saturdays ‘Vegan Sushi and Omokase’ dinner may be sold out, but there is still a few seats for the 5:30!
We'll serve smoked beet nigiri, carrot and yuzu ‘battleship sushi,’ a cured asparagus inside-out roll... plus sunomono salad, cauliflower tempura, soba noodle ramen, and a strawberry matcha cheesecake.

Only a little longer before the discount on tomorrow nights Vegan Blue Cheese Ravioli Dinner runs out! 5:00 is the deadline. We’re making this pasta with our aquafaba ravioli dough, and serving it with walnuts, grilled radicchio, apple honey, and our aged almond Parmesan. We’ll also be serving chickpea panisse fries (pictured) with black garlic aioli and chili jam, a melon gazpacho, a wonderful antipasti dish, and a blackberry cheesecake! If you use the code ‘ravioli’ for our 5:30 seating, the 5-course dinner is $36, and you can use the code ‘dinner’ for the 8:00 seating! (It’s usually $45).
