ABOUT ZIA’S TRATTORIA
Zia’s Trattoria is a classic Chicago Italian restaurant dedicated to producing authentic Italian cuisine in the Edison Park community. The rustic wood floors, crisp white tablecloths, exposed brick walls, and a touch of charm creates the Zia’s that we all know and love. The inspiration behind Zia’s Trattoria (or Aunt’s Table in Italian) came from executive chef Joe Calabrese’

s culinary adventures to Italy and two of its most well-known regions; Tuscany and Liguria. To the benefit of diners in Edison Park and across Chicago, Joe picked up a few cooking techniques and recipes that eventually made their way to the tables of Zia’s. The warm and inviting bar area is dressed in rich wood accents. Several comfortable seating areas are to be found, each with a good view of bustling downtown Edison Park. It’s spacious enough for an after-work gathering of co-workers or a cozy, light lunch with a friend. The rest of Zia’s is comprised of several intimate dining areas. The open kitchen area in the back of the restaurant adds another dash of charm and comfort.

Zia's Social on Northwest Highway opened Monday after nearly five months of interior renovation in the old Iron House Ale House space. The family behind the restaurant recently closed its two other locations in Lakeview and Edison Park.

As we sat down to our final dinner at Zia’s Trattoria last night, a flood of memories came to mind. Like many of you, we’ve celebrated so many important family events at Zia’s. Baptisms, showers, milestone birthdays, our parent’s funeral luncheons …

Zia’s Trattoria has been an amazing journey for us. We’ve met so many interesting people and reconnected with so many from the past. Over the weekend Zia’s was filled with regulars coming to say goodbye and reminisce. Once again, we felt the strong support of an amazing group of people.

In the excitement of creating Zia’s Social, we haven’t stopped long enough to mourn our 1st restaurant. It hit us last night. Saying goodbye is hard! It feels a lot like moving out of your first home or sending your child off to college. It’s time, but it’s hard.

We want to thank all of you for making Zia’s an amazing place. After a year of eating on Oliphant and dining in the Duomo, we realize Zia’s magic is the People. Zia’s is a feeling – not a place. That being said, it’s time to move on and embrace an updated style of feasting on Italian food. We need you to help us create the “home away from home” feeling that we’ve all come to know and love.

It’s not goodbye – It’s Thank You. Hope to see you next week.
