First up, check out the Fear as Teacher mini-exhibit at The Museum of the Cherokee People. The exhibit features Cherokee artists and highlights the Cherokee legends that use fear to teach important lessons. Fear as a Teacher is open October 1st through 31st and is included with general admission to the museum

Next, Cherokee Historical Association is bringing back Legendary Fears, with two spooky nighttime attractions. The Sgili (Ghost) Hunt allows you to explore Mountainside Theatre after dark. Hear real ghost stories and do your own paranormal investigation. Then, head over to Oconaluftee Indian Village for Spearfinger's Awakening, a cultural legends walk. Come face to face with the creatures of Cherokee lore and hear their stories. Legendary Fears is open Thursdays through Saturdays, from October 15th through 31st, 7pm to 10pm. On Halloween weekend, hunt for clues around Cherokee to solve an art heist mystery. Detectives will make their way through Cherokee, visiting participating businesses to interview suspects, hunt for clues, and piece together the evidence. Follow the trail, solve the mystery, and see if you can identify the thief and recover the missing painting! Start at the pavilion outside of the museum between 9am and 3pm on October 30th and 31st. Guesses must be turned in by 6pm on Saturday

When you're not solving crimes, enjoy hands-on crafts, a local art market, and costume contest at Qualla Arts & Crafts Mutual. DIY activities will be available (prices vary) from 9am to 3pm on October 30th and 31st. Open air market featuring local Cherokee artists and costume contest for kids, teens, and adults takes place on Saturday
