This commercial holiday with tire and mattress sales can't diminish the importance of the love given by all those who fill that position of fatherly love in our journey of life. It may be your biological father who keeps an eye on and offers encouragement throughout his time here. It often is a fellow traveler who looks straight across to you on your shared path and offers kindness when it matters most. These fellows see themselves in their understanding of your struggle and confusion about decisions to be made. They see themselves, and often have the experience to help choose the right course. Civic organizations, good ones, try to foster this parentage for the betterment of entire communities. It can be called brotherly or fatherly influence.
It's love and that's all it really is, although we sometimes don't see it at the time. It does make our lives more rich because its real.
Life is fleeting, and running away quickly. Take time today for a thank you, a hug, a handshake, a kind word or a memory to recognize the goodness in the people who cared enough to pause and care about you. It's a good use of the time that flys by every second of every day.
