Hi all. A message from Bill Hamilton and update on Jan.
We've been busy since the City of Charlottesville closed The Grill. Troon will be running the golf course and the food and beverage. Jan hasn't heard from the city since their email to vacate September 30th or from Troon. Jan is in Florida doing great. Missing all of you.
An exciting thing happened a while back after The Grill closed. A friend of mine/fraternity brother/college basketball teammate, JD Leete contacted me about a joint media venture. I build ROKU TV channels. He is retired Navy and has become a documentary film maker. His feature length show "Target of Opportunity" is on Amazon Prime and Tubi. During a conversation while talking about building his ROKU channel we decided to begin another program.
The Debrief. Our Warriors Video Diary.
It is a series where I interview military veterans.
It is the firsthand accounts of their lives before, during and after their military service. The main goals are to share their personal experiences and in doing so further build the veteran community and communicate important sources of assistance and access to veteran services.
The first series is with veterans from the Winter Haven American Legion, Post 8 near where Jan lives in Florida. We got to know them when they did the Honor Guard ceremony for her stepfather (Marine) when he passed away last year.
The first four episodes are now available on ROKU and Rumble. Many more to follow soon.

There will be multiple posts about the warm and wonderful send off for Jan and her staff last night with Bomar (Mary) and Ritter (Bob). For today a tribute video complete with drone footage of the golf course made for Jan by her daughter Kat and Kat's husband Greg. Enjoy.

Today is an all day "goodbye" celebration for Chef Jan and The Grill staff. Jan wanted this picture of the end of the rainbow over the barn where the Troon maintanance crew is centered. They are her fellow contractors here at Meadowcreek whose future is also up in the air. Not only do they do a great job here and have helped Jan on various improvement projects, the crew in general have become more like family than just friends or co-workers. Great job guys! All the best to you in the future!
Remember, tonight is Bomar and Ritter from 5-7:30 PM. Hope to see you all there! We'll leave the sunset on for you!

To Chef Jan it has always been important to support the local community, from the food and beverages we sell (locally brewed IPAs) to Chaps Ice Cream. We're pretty sure Tony LaBua (Chaps) is from NY..😁
Jan has also behind the scenes supported other efforts like this one. In 2019 hurricane Michael leveled Mexico Beach Florida. I suggested we send some cases of water with a group we knew heading there from Charlottesville. Jan was like, "just go ahead and send the whole pallet".

Another great Chef Jan idea. Who remembers our Friday's at Five scramble? Little did we know the city would shut the golf course down for three months the next spring, cancel tournaments for three years and then never allow evening leagues to start back up, including our scrambles. Jan hung in there and adapted. That weird thing called a bottom line was caught in the cross-fire. Our customers stepped up with much larger than usual tips during that time. Just one of the reasons we call you our amazing customers!

What a great year of Chef Jan's Friday Scrambles! Next Friday is our last until the spring. We will continue the Sunday Scramble as usual every Sunday weather permitting. The Sunday start time will be moved to 3:30 PM in October then November -April will be 2:00.
A special thank you to Debb and Gary at the Grill and all the participants who have made the Scrambles into a Charlottesville happening!

Jan's hard work and creativity made special moments like this possible. I ran into Blue at the store last week. He is 90+ years old. He said, "I'm buying clothes for a wedding. And thanking God it's not mine!"
Bomar and Ritter will be with us this Friday from 5-7:30 PM.

Important. This coming Friday, Sept. 22, will be an all day going away party for Chef Jan and The Grill staff. Capped off with Bomar and Ritter playing music from 5:00-7:30 PM. Please come by to say goodbye to Jan and the staff and let us say goodbye to you, our amazing customers. We will be open until the 30th, but will be busy packing and moving things out the final week. Please spread the word. Hope to see you all there.
