Today we locked the doors of The Village for the last time.
No smell of food cooking.
No sound of customers chatting.
Just silence.
Our mornings look a lot different now.
The kitchen where our days started well before sunrise.
The counter where so many of you sat.
The window that looked out to the “best view on Graham Street.” All sit empty.
The open sign is no longer lit.
The Village sign is gone.
But to so many, the corner of Graham & Atando will always be The Village.
For 15 years, it became more than just a job. It became our whole life. Our rhythm — and for a season, our purpose.
We celebrated there, and we walked through some of the hardest moments of our lives there. That place held pieces of our story — and so many others.
The reality is we’re walking away without the building or the keys. And that hurts. It’s a different kind of grief.
But what we built was never just walls.
Strangers became regulars. Regulars became friends. Some became family.
We served more than just sarcasm and food. We served a place where people felt welcome.
A customer (an officer) recently gave us a card that said, “Thank you for giving us a safe space for fellowship and for making us and Our families feel welcome.”
That made it worth it.
Graham Street was good to us. It gave us community and friendships we will always carry with us. It won’t ever quite feel the same — and neither will we.
The lights may be off.
The sign may be gone.
But what we built on that corner of “Graham & Atando” will never disappear.
