Before we start talking about ice cream, I wanted to introduce myself and share my story.
I’m Yuliya , and I’m from Belarus.
part 1. From Belarusian Marketing Manager to American Entrepreneur
After graduating college in 2015, I was offered a Marketing Manager position in one of the Belarusian banks, which required English language skills. Since I didn’t speak any English at the time, I decided to spend my summer in the US, working and studying the language. During my first month here, I realized that America was a country of endless opportunities and I decided to stay. It was heartbreaking to leave my home, my family and a job that I enjoyed, but I knew I couldn’t pass on an opportunity to change my life and the lives of my family for the better.
Like many other immigrants who come here with $100 in their pocket and a language barrier to overcome, I started my American journey cleaning motels, bussing and serving tables. Working in restaurants helped me realize the huge role food plays in American culture, and the experiences that are created when people come together to share a meal. It was heartwarming to witness these moments shared around a table, and it reminded me of home where every night my family would gather over a home cooked meal. I knew this was something special and that’s how my dream was born. From then on, I was determined to open my own restaurant, but the type of restaurant, that was still to be discovered…
