SO… let’s go ahead and add Davidson to the list of shops that have premade 100% dairy, egg & gluten free ice cream cakes ready for pickup 🥳 Dilworth & Plaza Midwood also have cakes!

You can always just stop in, ask what’s in stock and take it to go but we recommend hitting our online shop to see what size and styles are available, ordering it, and the team will put it aside. Then pick it up when you’re ready. Hit the link in our profile to shop now.

Looking for something more custom? We do that too! Just head to the cake page on our website and fill out the form. We require a 2 week heads up on custom orders.

SO... with the opening of Davidson and the summer rush bringing so many new faces through our doors we thought it’d be a good time to re-introduce ourselves 👋

We’re Jess & Garrett, the owners of Seemingly Overzealous. Both our relationship and SO started over a shared love of ice cream. Our first date was an ice cream flight tasting, which tells you just about everything you need to know about how we operate.

• ARE WE A FRANCHiSE •
We got this question a lot during the Davidson opening. The answer is no. We started SO right here in Charlotte and we own all four shops. The brand is personal to us and we’re both control freaks so it’s important that we own all aspects of the business. We’re also heavy participants in the day to day. You’ll find us behind the counter, in the production space, answering the DMs, and in the group chats with our team. We’d have it no other way 💛

• WHO DOES WHAT? •
Garrett (that’s me writing this) runs the day to day shop operations and handles marketing. If you’re in our DMs... it’s me. I float between all the shops throughout the week checking in on the team and making sure they have everything they need to serve you. The extrovert in me is also right at home behind the counter 🍦

Jess oversees production. She’s the brains behind every flavor we’ve ever launched, so if you’ve ever had a scoop that made you close your eyes for a second, that’s her. She also handles a huge chunk of the operational systems that keep this whole thing running. If you enjoy anything we make, show her some love ✨

• THE TEAM BEHiND US •
None of this works without the incredible humans who scoop, produce, and hold this brand up every day. Our team has grown to 38 people across four shops and a production space, and we’re endlessly grateful for every one of them.

Thanks for being here. If you’re new, welcome. If you’ve been with us since the Camp North End days, thank you for still showing up 💛

📸 A photo of us at each shop thanks to Charlotte Branding & Headshot Photographer & Sarah Wood : Davidson (our newest), Dilworth, Plaza Midwood, and Camp North End (where it all began).

SO… who’s ready to see Jess’s range. From Minnie Mouse to Steve Irwin she can truly do it all. With that, have you visited our Davidson shop?! We love our ice cream but it’s just one aspect of what we’re doing. The goal since day one has always been BiG FEELiNGS! We want you to walk in and no matter which way you look there’s something that brings you some joy. Then you take a step a realize the floors are glitter. Then you see the sprinkle ball machine, the disco ball or lite brite and can’t help but smile. Then you still get ice cream in what we’re hoping is a perfect end to an already wonderful experience.

Thank you to everyone that has visited our shops ever. We’re having so much fun building SO 🫶🏼

Help us make ice cream! We’re looking for part time production assistance, 15-25 hours per week, hourly pay based on experience.

The ideal candidate will have an upbeat and positive attitude, a strong attention to detail and desire to learn, and bring some kitchen experience to the table.

Duties will include everything from prep work (i.e. juicing lemons, processing strawberries) to assisting with ice cream production (i.e. making ice cream sammies, spinning, filling pints) to cleaning (i.e. dishwashing, mopping, sanitizing work areas).

We’re growing fast & need the support. Please email [email protected] with the subject line “SO… KiTCHEN SUPPORT” with a resume and anything else you’d like us to know about you.

SO… have you ever trinket swapped? Now’s your chance! Our Dilworth shop has an official trinket swap location. Stop by any time during business hours, bring a trinket and swap it for something new.

Here’s how it works!
• bring a trinket you’d love for someone else to have
• swap it with something on the shelf that brings you joy
• please do not bring broken or sharp objects to trade
• if you’re up for it share your trade on social and tag us

Thanks to Play More Charlotte 🌈 Playful Events for Adults & Emily Webb for taking over the shelves and bringing some whimsy to Dilworth. It’s been amazing to see so many trades have happened. The shelves are constantly changing!

SO… Davidson, where do we even start?

To be honest, we’re still processing the way you showed up. No matter how many times we open a shop or launch something new we never go in with the expectation that anyone will show up. We lower the bar and hope to be pleasantly surprised. Now, 5 days in, “pleasantly surprised” feels like the craziest understatement 🥹

Y’all lined up on the hottest of days, walked in with smiles, treated the team like family and the space like your home. We watched countless families rock em sock em robot or play hungry hippos or create fun things on the giant lite brite. Our hearts are full… and on top of that about 3000 scoops & 750+ cones have already walked out our door. We don’t take that for granted. It’s shocking. We’re grateful. 🍦✨

The work continues though. While so many felt that things went swimmingly we know there’s a lot left to finish. A few things coming very soon:

🕦 Earlier open. With Harriets next door cranking out burgers as early as 11 we’re thinking we should be open a little earlier. Stay tuned but we’re pretty sure our weekdays will start at 12pm here very soon.

☀️ Outdoor furniture. Our shipping window shows it landing this week but we’ll see. A handful of bright red pieces will appear outside very soon.

📏 Line divider. We misjudged the spacing during construction and wanted to see what it felt like in real life before building the actual divider. That should go in very soon.

💛 The merch will move up onto the big teal wall, freeing up the floor space it’s currently taking up.

🪑 Seating updates. It got a little tight in there when we were busy and it eliminated table usage. We’ve slid a couple sets of benches down toward the back of the space, which has definitely helped. We’re also considering different tables but want to see how the space gets used a little more before we make a change.

🫠 Production. We’re quickly getting a wrangle on production for 4 shops. We anticipate having the core 12 flavors back scooping today.

Thank you, Davidson. Truly. We’re so grateful to be here 💛

Thank you Sarah Wood for capturing everything so beautifully

SO… your favorite flavor (Ube Cheesecake) is a little different and we wanted to share why. We don’t take changing recipes lightly but the goal is to continue to push the line on allergy sensitivity. My daughter is super sensitive to red dye so we’ve been working diligently to remove it from all flavors and this was the final one that had dyes in it.

We believe this is a better representation of what Ube tastes like and it further opens the door to those that can’t handle or don’t want dyes in their ice cream. We hope you understand. To those that have kindly provided feedback both good and critical we appreciate you so very much 🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♂️
