Unfortunately, after years of being here at the Charlestown location, we will have to close the doors due to horrible landlord issues ever since we signed the lease there’s always been an issue. The biggest one is our heat issue, which has never been fixed and for the first time I have withheld rent and they now Filed papers for us to get out. We are not even a month behind. In the crazy part is the owner Nikolas Zarokostas said he would take care of the issue multiple time and never followed through. Even after I had sent him pictures of coming into the building with temperatures as low as 38.  key for some reason, decided to have his” business partner” girlfriend send me a text message saying they would not be taking care of the heat after he had said it multiple times that he would fix it just shameful beware to anyone who rents this building after we are gone this landlord is quite ridiculous. Unfortunately this Sunday will be our last day. If you have any gift cards and don’t make it in to use them, we will honor them at our upcoming Pow Wow’s this summer for any catering jobs you would like to use us for and of course, once we open our building we own in Preston CT as soon as possible this is just an unfortunate event, but maybe it is just the push. We need to get our own building up and running. Also, if anyone can point me in the direction of legal help with a landlord wrongful termination, it would be greatly appreciated

🧑‍🍳👩‍🍳 Culinary Rhode Island: Providence chef finalist in 2024 James Beard Foundation awards

PROVIDENCE – Maria Meza from Dolores has been named a finalist in the “Oscars of Food.”

The chef from the eatery at 100 Hope St. is among five finalists nominated for Best Chef: Northeast in the 2024 James Beard Foundation awards.

The James Beard Awards are among the nation’s most prestigious culinary honors. The awards fete those who are creating exceptional food, food media content and better food systems, while demonstrating a commitment to racial and gender equity, community, sustainability and a culture where all can thrive.

The winners will be announced on June 10 during the James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards Ceremony at the Lyric Opera in Chicago.

At Doloras, Meza serves contemporary and regional Mexican cuisine from the Mixteca region of Puebla and Oaxaca, drawing inspiration from its many types of Moles, sauces and stews.

The other finalists are Conor Dennehy of Talulla in Cambridge, Mass.; David Standridge of The Shipwright’s Daughter in Mystic, Conn., Jake Stevens of Leeward in Portland, Maine, and Cara Tobin of Honey Road in Burlington, Vt.

Last year, Sherry Pocknett of Sly Fox Den Too in Charlestown won the Best Chef: Northeast title.
