North Carolina has lost a BBQ legend. Steve Grady Sr., the owner of Grady’s BBQ in Wayne County, was a guardian of Eastern North Carolina barbecue traditions and in the words of Sam, “one of the kindest men.” He learned the craft from his grandfather at just 12 years old and never stopped honoring the old-fashioned way. His legacy reminds us all why we do what we do.

Over the past several years, like many restaurants across the country, we’ve felt the effects of a shifting economy right here in Charleston. Rising costs, changing consumer habits, and the decline of traditional dine-in models have created challenges we couldn’t ignore. We know you’ve seen it in our West Side and downtown operations, and we want to be transparent—this has been the most difficult season in our journey. Dem 2 Brothers & a Grill has always been more than a restaurant—it’s a family story. Born from my father’s dream Adrian Wright, carried forward by the next generation Ashley Monique Wright and supported every step of the way by the Charleston community.

But the last few years have brought challenges we couldn’t ignore. Like many industries , we’ve felt the strain of a shifting economy and on top of that, we’ve faced the unexpected challenge of caring for my dad’s health. These obstacles have tested us deeply, but they haven’t broken us.

Our Promise: We’re Not Giving Up

Dem 2 Brothers was built on more than just BBQ—it was built on family, faith, and community. We’ve faced hard times before, and every time, with your support, we’ve found a way to persevere. This time is no different. Instead of closing the book, we’re turning the page.

We’re taking time to pause and pivot our offerings. We’re reimagining our business model to match the times.
