*Big News*
I’ve heard so many times that doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results could be considered a definition of insanity. In line with that wisdom, I am not going to continue to make these piece meal changes to my formerly successful hotdog shop. They all just end up being Band-Aids on a train wreck and we still can’t get anywhere close to the sales volume we did before the pandemic changed downtown. Currently, it’s just not a good location for my specific business model.
So, I can no longer treat the shop as the “main event” at my business. I’m doing my own version of what Dem 2 Brothers did last year when they went back to being a mobile operation… I’m going back to my hotdog carts as the primary focus for my business. At the end of August, the shop will be closed for at least the next three months. Among other things, that will allow me to focus on building our presence at the South Charleston farmers market, and to see what is possible down there by being open five days out of the week. It has not been easy to come to this decision; but, it’s a far better choice than continuing what I’ve been doing until the business just goes under and has to close. I appreciate everyone who has continued to patronize the shop so very much; but, there just aren’t enough folks to feed during the business day any more.
Near the end of this calendar year, I will be able to assess whether or not it makes sense to reopen the shop. There’s a good chance that “the shop” will be used solely as a commissary to support my hotdog carts and catering. I really don’t know what will happen at this point. If I do continue to have a shop in downtown Charleston, it will be a much more streamlined operation with the primary focus still being the hotdog cart, catering and mobile operations.
In the meantime, please come see us at the South Charleston farmers market! Beginning in September, we won’t just be there on the weekends; we will be there Wednesday through Sunday! 😁
If you’re not familiar with the market yet, it is in a VERY easy to access location at 4006 MacCorkle Ave. SW. There is plenty of free parking, and I even have seats and tables for my customers. I hope to see y’all soon!
