IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY: EAT CAKE
Sometimes you just don't need an excuse to treat yourself to a little bit of cake. One bite can change your mood and instantly put a smile on your face. So I created 'Snacking Cakes' little 'sheet cakes' in delicious flavors with gorgeous decorations - beautiful, because you deserve something that not only tastes delicious but also looks exquisite. Each one serves 2-4 people if you are cutting small tasting pieces - but sharing is not required! It's one of those cakes that you leave on your kitchen counter with the knife nearby and indulge in little snack treats whenever your cake heart desires. No plates necessary - especially when no one is looking....

'Snacking cakes' - deliciousness you are not required to share but fun if you do.... Today's favors are Chocolate Pistachio and the now iconic Chocolate Caramel Bumpy Cake.

BUMPY CAKE:
THE NOSTALGIC DESSERT CREATION YOU NEVER HEARD OF....
I first started making "Bumpy Cake" 40 years ago - and like many things at Susan Lawrence, I often move on to new inspirations and sometimes forget about some pretty terrific creations from the past. So this week, from the cobwebs of my mind - returned this iconic and delicious cake. And I was SO surprised by how many customers recognized it from decades ago and said, "you brought back that incredible Bumpy Cake - I'll take two!" There was a lot of reminiscing about my store from long ago - and it was amazing to reconnect and share memories with so many customers.

"Bumpy Cake" if you don't know, was created in the 1900's by Fred Sanders of the Sanders Confectionary Company in Michigan. Legend has it, that one day he was making cakes and ran short on buttercream frosting and could only pipe alternating ridges across the top, then covering it all with a rich chocolate glaze. To this day it remains an iconic and much loved cake in Michigan. My version replaces the vanilla buttercream bumps with a beautiful caramel buttercream which adds an incredible dimension of flavor. It's the ideal, 'snacking cake' and now it has returned to Chappaqua....

Because so many of you ask, the china pattern shown is from my collection of antique tableware. This is one of my favorites, and even more special because it was gifted to me decades ago by my sister Susan with whom I built Susan Lawrence into the marvelous gourmet destination you know today. The china pattern, Wedgewood Strawberry Fruit, England, 1890 - is quite rare, but I have been fortunate to discover more pieces over the years and expand the collection far beyond the original four plates originally given to me by my sister Susan.
