Founder Friday: What “Food as Medicine” Means to Me
Farm 2 Farmacy is built around the idea of food as medicine. It’s literally where our name comes from.
But to me, food as medicine isn’t a wellness trend or a claim that food replaces medical care.
It starts with biology.
Our bodies need specific nutrients in order to function. We need them to build proteins, make hormones, produce energy, repair tissue, support our organs, and allow our cells to keep doing their jobs.
And most of those building blocks come from what we eat.
Food is so fundamental that when it isn’t available for long enough, the body begins using its stored energy and eventually breaking down its own tissue to keep essential systems functioning.
That is how important nourishment is to life.
So when I say food is medicine, I’m not saying broccoli replaces your doctor.
I’m saying food is one of the primary ways we give our bodies what they need to build, repair, function, and regenerate.
Not because eating well makes us invincible.
But because biology still has requirements.
And to me, food as medicine starts there.
