There is a woman who built a church out of cheese, and she's coming to the farm.

On June 20th — the eve of the Summer Solstice — Erika Kubick of Cheese S*x Death is bringing her newest book, Cheese Magic, to Caprae for a dinner that celebrates exactly what the title promises. Erika has spent years making the case that cheese is sacred, that the table is ritual, and that the act of gathering with intention — especially around something made with this much care — is its own kind of magic. We believe her.

The evening runs twice: doors open at 4:30pm and again before the 7pm seating. Both are the full experience.

It begins outside. Happy hour on the farm, live music, and the 217flea market running across the grounds — local makers, vintage finds, and the long unhurried light of the longest days of the year. Drinks available by the glass or through an optional beverage package.

Then dinner. Four courses inside Caprae, each one moving through a different turn of the Wheel of the Year — spring herbs and fresh chèvre, summer stone fruit and bloomy rinds, autumn earth and aged tomme, winter spice and something warming. Erika will be at the table with you, sharing stories from Cheese Magic and her years of devotion to the craft. Our award-winning goat cheeses are woven through every course, made right here on the farm.

After dinner, the fire pit. The solstice. Whatever comes next.

Tickets are limited for both seatings. Reserve your place at the link below.

Tonight at Caprae, we're celebrating the spirit that lives in Mexican cuisine: recipes passed down through generations, techniques that can't be rushed, flavors that demand respect.

Caprae's menu starts at 4pm through 9pm:
Smoked tri tip tacos with hatch chili pico
Cochinita pibil (the real way - achiote-roasted and slow)
Ceviche tostada with crab and halibut
Suadero torta with confit beef belly
Choriqueso dip that's actually worth the calories
Salsa flight - three styles, all made right

G4 Tequila cocktails and mezcal flights at the bar.

We're open 4pm-9pm. No reservations needed - just show up ready to eat.

Quick history lesson: Cinco de Mayo celebrates the Battle of Puebla in 1862, not Mexican independence. It's about an underdog victory that showed what determination and skill can accomplish against long odds.

We're marking the day the way it deserves - with serious Mexican cooking that honors the techniques and traditions behind the food.

Chef Garron's menu tomorrow includes cochinita pibil (achiote-roasted pork done the long way), proper charro beans with house-made longaniza sausage, ceviche tostada with lump crab and halibut, and suadero torta with confit beef belly.

At the bar, G4 Tequila cocktails and mezcal flights. This is estate-grown agave made the traditional way - the kind of tequila that actually tastes like something.

Tomorrow, Tuesday May 5th, 4pm-9pm. Come hungry.

A celebration of Mexican culinary tradition, not just margaritas and sombreros.

Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Battle of Puebla in 1862, when a small Mexican army achieved an unlikely victory against French forces. It's a day that celebrates resilience, courage, and Mexican heritage - not Mexico's independence day, as many assume.

At Caprae, we're honoring the holiday by celebrating what Mexican cuisine actually is: complex, regional, and built on centuries of technique. The Caprae team has created a menu that respects the craft behind the food, from proper cochinita pibil to real charro beans.

What we're serving Tuesday, May 5th:
Tacos done right - smoked tri tip with hatch chili pico, achiote-roasted cochinita pibil with citrus red onion, roasted miso mushrooms with chipotle aioli

Ceviche Tostada with lump blue crab and Alaskan halibut Suadero Torta featuring confit beef belly

Pintos 'n' Cheese - charro beans cooked with house-made longaniza sausage and finished with our feta Choriqueso Dip with chihuahua cheese and Fischer Farms pork chorizo

Salsa Flight - three styles, properly made

At the bar, we're featuring G4 Tequila cocktails and mezcal flights. G4 is the real deal - estate-grown agave, traditional production methods, zero additives. The kind of tequila that deserves to be sipped, not shot.

This isn't a theme night. It's a celebration of serious Mexican cooking and the people who've been doing it right for generations.

Join us Tuesday, May 5th. Regular hours: 4pm-9pm. No reservations needed.

Two Weeks Out: Sparkling Meets Still

Let us tell you about two wines you'll experience at our MAWBY & bigLITTLE dinner on May 2nd - one from each winery.

bigLITTLE Underdog is a medium-bodied red made from 100% Gamay Noir grown in their Leelanau County vineyards. It shows a beautiful garnet color with flavors of blackberry, cherry, and black pepper, finished with smooth notes of vanilla and light oak from French barrel aging. We're pairing it with herb crusted lamb chops, sour cherry mostarda, and chevre mousse - the wine's bright fruit and pepper notes complement the lamb perfectly while the oak aging matches the richness of the dish.

MAWBY Grace is where traditional sparkling wine craft shines. This méthode champenoise Brut Rosé blends Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, then ages in the bottle for at least two years. The result is a crisp, dry sparkling wine with delicate red fruit notes and that refined, ye**ty finish you get from real champagne-method wines. It's paired with pan-seared Alaskan halibut in rock shrimp bisque with asparagus and spring pea salad - a pairing that lets both the wine and the seafood shine.

This is just two of the five pairings you'll experience - sparkling and still, each showing a different side of what northern Michigan can produce. Michael Laing will walk you through each one, explaining the vineyards, the techniques, and why these wines work so perfectly with what's on your plate.

Two weeks until May 2nd. Three seatings: 5pm | 7pm | 9pm.

Two Wineries, One Vision - And Why They Belong Here

Three weeks until our MAWBY & bigLITTLE wine dinner, and we want to tell you about the people behind these wines.

Brothers Michael and Peter Laing grew up working their parents' vineyard in Michigan's Leelanau Peninsula. They started small - just two acres planted in 2002 - selling fruit to legendary winemaker Larry Mawby. By 2007, they'd moved home for good, working at MAWBY while developing their own vision for bigLITTLE Wines.

Today they own and operate both wineries side-by-side on the Leelanau Peninsula. MAWBY focuses on traditional method sparkling wines - the kind that require years of bottle aging and absolute commitment to craft. bigLITTLE showcases still wines from their three estate vineyards, celebrating what northern Michigan grapes can do when you let the land speak.

This approach - working with what the land gives you, refusing to compromise on quality, building something authentic in an unexpected place - sounds familiar to us.

Like the Laings, we started with a belief that seemed impossible to others. We're farming goats and making cheese on the Illinois prairie. They're making world-class wines in northern Michigan. Both of us prove that place matters, that patience matters, that doing it right matters more than doing it easy.

Join us May 2nd when Michael Laing brings both wineries to our table. Three seatings: 5pm | 7pm | 9pm.
