Prairie Fruits Farm & Creamery

Prairie Fruits Farm & Creamery We are a working dairy farm famous for our award-winning artisan farmstead cheeses, with an on-site farm-to-table restaurant and bar (Caprae Restaurant).
(405)

Visit us on the farm to buy cheeses, gelato, savor a meal or cocktail, or visit with the goats. We have a herd of about 100 milking does, and we make seasonal artisan goat cheeses, goat milk gelato and yogurt with their milk. Our goats are pastured and our farm is "Animal Welfare Approved." We also make cow milk and mixed milk cheeses, using organic, grassfed cow milk from Rocky Road Dairy, Mulber

ry Grove, IL. We have a farm store that we call "The Real Stand." We've recently remodeled our store to include a farm bar featuring cheese & charcuterie boards, an amazing wine list and more. Check out our website: https://www.prairiefruits.com/ for more details.

We welcome you to the farm this weekend for Tomato Fest, a slow day of enjoying the fruits of the farm, tomatoes.

Reserve your table Saturday for brunch, pork belly BLT and Bloody Marys on the menu, or come by for dinner, where tomato takes center stage in dishes like tomato toast and crab salad. Kids activities keep the little ones entertained while you soak up the sun with a Bloody Mary made with local vodka from Silver Tree Beer & Spirits.

Sunday, grab brunch, then take in a canning demo, just in time to learn what to do with all those tomatoes from your own garden. Grab a scoop of gelato or a charcuterie board, and settle into the day.

We're glad to have you at the farm this weekend.

🥃 Saturday, the bar cart belongs to Silver Tree.

Silver Tree Beer & Spirits is taking over our bar cart this Saturday, 10am to 2pm, pouring Bloody Marys made with their Down East Vodka. It's their pilot product, a small batch wheat vodka with a clean, smooth finish, made from wheat grown on their own Cow Creek Farm outside Paxton, on land that's been in their family five generations.

Clay Glazik will be out here serving alongside us. Choose from three toppers: the Caprae Classic, Caprese, or BLT.

Can't make it Saturday? The same Bloody Marys are on the Caprae menu all weekend long.

Bar cart, by the pavilion, Saturday 10am–2pm, part of Tomato Fest.

We're honored to welcome three people working to bring Illinois grain back to Illinois tables for our September 5th Slow Grains dinner with Slow Food USA.

Harold Wilken of Janie's Mill has spent years converting Illinois row crop ground back to organic, regionally milled grain. Marty Travis of Spence Farms has long grown heirloom grains and produce for chefs across the Midwest. Jeff Hake of Funk's Grove Heritage Grains is reviving grain varieties suited to our region's soil.

They'll join Slow Food USA Executive Director Kris Reid for a panel discussion on what it takes to rebuild a regional grain economy, then we'll sit down together for a dinner built from their harvest.

Join us Saturday, September 5th at Prairie Fruits Farm & Creamery in Champaign. $50pp plus tax and service. It's the kind of evening we love hosting, and we think you will too.

🍅 Some weekends are made for slowing down.

Tomato Fest runs August 29–30, and while there's plenty to do, there's no rush to do it all. Come for an afternoon, stay for the day, or plan a whole weekend around it.

Start Saturday morning with a Goat Hike at 9:30am, a mile through pasture and pond with the herd, cheese sample included. From there, wander over to our tomato market stand for fruit picked fresh, or browse the Farm Store for tomato and garden themed finds, gelato, grab and go tomato sandwiches, and our seasonal Tomato Chèvre, made right here in the creamery.

From 10am to 2pm, Clay Glazik from Silver Tree Beer & Spirits sets up at the bar cart with Bloody Marys in three styles, Caprese, BLT, and Caprae Classic. In the Orchard room sign up for Embroidery Beginner class, 9am-11am.

On Sunday, Chef Peter Glatz leads food demos at 11am and 1pm, with tomatoes to taste throughout. If you'd rather spend your afternoon with the goats, our afternoon goat hike starts at 1:30pm. If you feel the need to be creative, we are hosting Luscious Leaves in the Orchard room with a Build Your Own Terrarium workshop, 2-4pm.

Both days, Caprae Restaurant at Prairie Fruits Farm serves a tomato forward menu, tomato toast, crab salad, and herb crusted mahi mahi for dinner, pork belly BLT and shakshuka for brunch. Reservations are open now.

Free to attend, kids activities and yard games under the windmill both days. Come spend the weekend with us.

The Prairie Artist Market is coming back, and we're building this year's lineup. We're recruiting local artists and makers, from potters to painters to soap crafters, to fill Prairie Fruits Farm with color and craft on Sunday, September 20th, from 10am to 2pm.

Vendors will be set up throughout the farm this year, not just the green space, so guests wander the whole property as they shop. It's a free, open-to-the-public day with the farm store, brunch at Caprae, and our goat pen all part of the mix.

There's a $15 vendor fee (invoiced after you're accepted) that goes toward marketing the event. We review every application and build the lineup to represent a range of mediums, so tell us about your work.

Applications close August 30th. Apply here: https://wkf.ms/45Gf1OL

Are you looking for a cooking class that leads you step by step through the process of cooking a dish and then enjoying the dish afterwards? A class that shares the story of where the food you are cooking came from? Or an activity that not only teaches you a skill but opens the door to meeting new people?
Chef Ernesto’s cooking classes are exactly that! Our next class is Tortilla Making this Thursday and we would love to invite you to join us! Tickets in the bio- https://www.prairiefruits.com/event-details/tortilla-making-with-chef-ernesto-an-oaxacan-culinary-experience

Farm Happenings, August 24-30

We're closing out August with Tomato Fest. The fields are full, and the menu at Caprae is built around it. Come in for dinner Friday or Saturday night and try the Tomato Toast or Crab Salad, both featuring fresh farm tomatoes, or stop by for brunch and order the BLT or a Bloody Mary made with Silvertree Spirits from Paxton.

Fridays are still our favorite night on the farm. Hot Dogs & Goats and a Farm Tour run from 5pm, and the Orchard Room stays open for board games, everything from Sorry! to Catan and a lot in between.

Goat Hikes have open spots this week: Tuesday at 5:30pm, Saturday at 9:30am, and Sunday at 1:30pm. Pasta Making is on a short break and returns next week.

Multiple workshops round out the week. Thursday, Chef Ernesto of El Molcajete Sauces leads a hands-on tortilla making class, working with heirloom corn masas, mezcal margaritas, and an Oaxacan-inspired dinner with mole negro short ribs. Sunday, Luscious Leaves is back with a Build Your Own Terrarium workshop, 2-4pm in the Orchard Classroom. And Saturday wraps up Week 5 of our Embroidery Stitch Camp series with Long Stitches.

Cooking with Cheese, with Cheesemaker Leslie Cooperband

We're welcoming back Prairie Fruits Farm & Creamery's founder and original Head Cheesemaker, Leslie Cooperband, for an evening built around her craft.

Guests arrive at 5pm for a welcome cocktail and a guided farm tour, meeting the goats behind the cheese and learning how our regenerative farming practices shape everything we make. Dinner follows: an intimate, multi-course meal built around our artisan goat cheeses, with Leslie leading a cooking demonstration and discussion at each course. Wine pairings, thoughtfully selected to match, are poured throughout the night.

Thursday, September 10, doors at 4pm. $85 per person plus tax and service, including welcome cocktail, dinner, and wine pours. Seating is limited given the hands-on format of the evening, so early reservations are recommended.

Reserve your seat at the link in bio.
