Fairville Inn

Fairville Inn The Fairville Inn Bed and Breakfast, with its elegantly appointed rooms and suites, is situated in t All rooms feature king or queen beds.

The Inn is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, as part of the Fairville Historic District. Although the historical records are inconsistent, the Inn's Main House was most likely built between 1825 and 1837. The original summer kitchen with root cellar remains as well. The Inn has been home to members of many of southern Chester County's early families, including Mendenhall, Pyle, T

rimble, Sharpless, and others. James Trimble was a relative of Daniel Defoe, author of Robinson Crusoe. His wife was sister to Ellwood Mendenhall, a prominent figure in the town that bears the family name. Situated on over five acres (including the adjacent innkeepers' quarters) and surrounded by miles of back roads, the inn has 8 rooms and two suites, each individually decorated. The Carriage House has four rooms and two suites, each with a private deck overlooking the gardens. The Springhouse has four rooms, each with a deck and a panoramic view down the meadow to the neighboring pond. Throughout the Inn, fresh flowers, and elegant country décor create a warm and quiet atmosphere. Each guest room has a private en-suite bath, individually controlled heating and air conditioning, flat screen TV, and WiFi. Many rooms have fireplaces (in season). The Inn serves a complimentary full breakfast with a choice of three hot entrees daily. There is a wide-ranging selection of fine restaurants for lunch and dinner, and the staff will be pleased to make recommendations and reservations.

Many women’s stories have been lost to history. As this year marks the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment, giving women the right to vote, Winterthur is celebrating women all year. On February 29, our Re-Vision 20/20 exhibit opens and will uncover unexpected, surprising, and complex stories about women through objects in our collection. Who were these creators, thinkers, disrupters, and influencers? We’ll tell their stories. This rare book from the Winterthur Library, of which only 15 exist, was one of the earliest examples of abstract art, offering commentary on color harmony and contrast in a new and unique way for the era, and it was written by a woman during a time when there were few women professional artists. Although little is known about the author, Mary Gartside, her book tells us part of her story helping us to recognize the pioneering work she created and her influence on future artists. http://www.winterthur.org/exhibitions-events/exhibitions/future-exhibitions/re-vision-20-20-through-a-womans-lens/
