Very few people ever take the chance to live out their dreams; some will wait years and years for the right moment, only to find, they waited too long…. Others JUMP AT THE CHANCE when the odds are clearly stacked against them, because they believe they can overcome any obstacle big or small……… The Hobo Nickel was a labor of love, from MANY SOURCES. On May 23rd 2014 when we opened to our friends and family, we had less than $1 left in the bank after reviving the restaurant from its 2-year slumber. Blood, Sweat and Tears went into reopening this historic building in Centralia. We opened as something different than Centralia was used to, for a restaurant. We believed that caring about the quality of our products and sourcing as much as we could locally was the proper way to do business, We were RIGHT and I will continue to believe that going beyond what others are willing to do, to guarantee quality products reach the customers, is the way a restaurant should operate. I believe that spending your hard earned dollars as local as possible is the only way to return the Centralia Area into a thriving community. I believe there is hope for a return to greatness, but for that to happen, it takes unending support for all small businesses, especially those that are locally owned. The Hobo Nickel has been BLESSED by EXTREMELY LOYAL and WONDERFUL CUSTOMERS and your support is FOREVER CHERISHED by Everyone at The Hobo Nickel.
2,985……… To me, this is an amazing number…. As of Feb 23rd, 2015, that is the number of Fans on The Hobo Nickel business page……….. 4.8 Stars out of 5 from 146 reviews…. 9 Months in Business………. If you have followed The Hobo Nickel from the beginning, you know that we took on a huge challenge in trying to take a 2 year closed restaurant and return it to a flourishing, locally owned, Centralia Restaurant.
I am extremely sad to announce that Sunday March 1st will be the last day of operation, with myself as the owner. In the end, we did our best, but Mother Nature and a few other factors have contributed to making one of the hardest decisions of my life. Our customers have been nothing short of amazing. Your smiles and encouragement have been the source of motivation every single day. I believe 15 to 20 additional customers a day could have allowed us to continue, but winter weather, the economy of our area and mistakes that I surely have made over the course of the last 9 months contributed to this outcome. I struggled briefly with the thought that The Hobo Nickel “failed”…. IT DID NOT, I believe it was VERY SUCCESSFUL, I believe MANY ENJOYED IT. The only downfall, was also our biggest obstacle, we were underfunded.
I wish to Thank ALL OF YOU WHO CAME THROUGH THE DOORS. Your Support has left a lasting impression on my heart; you have helped shape me into a better person than when this journey started. I have accepted a job offer out of state and am looking forward to receiving the first regular paycheck I have had since well before 2013. I have reached the limit of debt that I can personally take on and cannot continue to add to that total anymore…. It is amazing how quickly it can add up…… I am sad for the close of this chapter of my life, I believe in the City of Centralia, I believe in Greenball Freight and The Hobo Nickel with ALL OF MY HEART, and maybe someday, when I am able, I will come back with the proper funding saved and in the bank to give it another shot.
We truly believe that the buyer is out there for this building. We have 2 very interested parties who will be visiting this week to take a look, we can now publicly share that the building and contents are for sale and we believe that new owners could potentially be in place by weeks end…. My Hope is that The Hobo Nickel CONTINUES TO OPERATE FOR MANY YEARS!!! If anyone is looking for a turnkey restaurant for the price of the building and contents, this is by far the most realistic pricing offered to own your own restaurant in the surrounding areas. If you believe in the concept of using local products and producing QUALITY meals that your customers will enjoy, this is a huge opportunity for someone who has the proper funding in place to own the building and contents without a lease. Ownership of the building and contents will put you in a favorable place to enjoy success. Using your own concept or following along with The Hobo Nickel format and name are both possible options. In this FINAL WEEK, I ask that those of you, who supported us, PLEASE visit us for a meal. We have inventory to go through and paychecks for an AMAZING STAFF OF EMPLOYEES to make...
