Fort Boggy State Park - Texas Parks and Wildlife

Fort Boggy State Park - Texas Parks and Wildlife In early 1840, the John Byrns and Christopher C. Stanley families established the first settlement near Boggy Creek.

The settlers built Fort Boggy, a palisade fort, to protect them from frontier raids and food shortages.

Did you know that we have bats in our park!?🦇
Pictured here is the Mexican free-tailed bat, the official state flying mammal of Texas!

These bats eat crop-damaging insects, have tails that extend beyond their bodies, and can fly up to 60 miles per hour!
During warmer months, you may see them flying around near dusk in our park. Keep an eye out for what may look like a bird flying in an erratic pattern!

Texas has at least 12 bat-watching sites, and over 30 different species call our state home.

Happy ! This past year at Fort Boggy, we celebrated 256 memorable fishing moments and welcomed 37 participants through our Drawn Hunts and Hunter Education programs. 🦌🎣Thank you for supporting conservation, tradition, and outdoor sports!

Come on over with a fishing pole or borrow one with our Tackle Loaner Program. Sullivan Lake was recently stocked with channel catfish!

Sometimes the best moments out here happen when nature decides to show off a little bit
Every now and then, the breeze settles down, the water goes still, and the world above gets perfectly mirrored below. It’s like the park whispers, “Hold on… make sure to get my good side.”
If you catch it at just the right time, the reflection on the water looks so serene you’d swear the whole scene was a painting

Now that we’re at the end…. How many people have already noticed these pictures are flipped upside down?
If you look closely you can see some ripples in the water which is oriented to be where the sky usually is
