⛳️ HOW ARE YOU PLAYING THE NEW HOLE 11?

Steve Laslo from Ohio Golf Association came out yesterday to officially re-rate Hole 11 for our GHIN course rating — and we put him on the spot.

From the Hawk tees, the new hole 11 plays 266 yards.

The green is absolutely drivable… but there’s a catch. 😬

🌲 Plenty of tree trouble
💧 A pond guarding the front of the green
🏌️ And 266 yards of temptation telling you, “You can get there.”

Steve’s play?

3-wood about 200 yards, leave himself roughly 60 yards, wedge it on and take the birdie putt.

Smart. Sensible. Responsible.

Which is probably why most of us won’t do it. 😂

So what’s your play from 266?

A) 3W to 200 → wedge in
😎 Driver → carry the pond and go for the green
C) Driver → introduce a golf ball to the pond

The new Hole 11 opens Tuesday, September 1.

Avery was working on her putting, so I asked her:

What are 3 things you’d tell your younger self to become a better putter?

Her answers? Thoughtful, inspiring and honestly pretty great advice.

Me watching her sink putt after putt?

All I could think about was Caddyshack. 😂

So naturally, we had to add a little pressure:

⛳ Make the putt… keep the Spider.

Cue the Caddyshack inspiration…

“Be the ball, Avery.”

Unfortunately… she was not the ball. 😂

The Spider stays at Wyandot.

Avery is headed back to Southeastern University for another season of college golf. We’ve loved having her around Wyandot this summer and can’t wait to follow along.

Chuck’s Last Day at Wyandot 🫡

Chuck spent the summer with us at Wyandot as part of our grounds crew — primarily mowing and helping Scott and the crew keep the course looking great.

He’s also a retired U.S. Air Force Security Forces veteran. Unfortunately for us, summer is winding down and Chuck has to head back to his “real job” as a family liaison at Centerburg Schools.

I wanted to put together a video showing off all of Chuck’s hard work this summer.

Small problem: apparently I never took any video of Chuck actually working. 🤦‍♂️

So I had to find another way to make his interview entertaining.

Chuck has a habit of buying himself a little thinking time with an “uh…”

Naturally, I counted them.

Final score: 11.

Sorry, Chuck. When the guy editing the video has no mowing footage, he has to work with what he’s got. 😂

Thanks for spending your summer with us, Chuck. We appreciate everything you did to help keep Wyandot looking great — and, most importantly, thank you for your service!

Good luck back at Centerburg Schools. We’re going to miss having you around!

Bev Cart Diaries — Episode 1 🍻⛳️

I was going to train Somi on the beverage cart…

Turns out, she was already a pro. 😂

So instead, we cruised around Wyandot and had a good conversation.

Somi is a Centerburg local who played golf all four years of high school. She’s now at Ohio University studying nursing, where she’s also President of the Club Golf team.

This summer, you’ll find her cruising Wyandot in the Bev Cart, keeping golfers hydrated and making the rounds a little more fun.

And one small detail she almost makes sound normal…

Somi has TWO holes-in-one. 🤯⛳️⛳️

Neither one was at Wyandot, so obviously we’re going to need her to work on that.

Say hi to Somi next time the Bev Cart rolls up!

⛳ We’re poking holes in the greens Sunday — and that’s a good thing.

This Sunday, August 23, Scott and the crew will be solid-tine aerating our greens.

Unlike traditional core aeration, solid tines simply poke small holes in the turf, helping air and water get down into the root zone.

No cores pulled. No plugs everywhere. No big cleanup.

Right behind the aerator, we roll the greens, so they’re ready for play almost immediately.

And apparently very ready for play… because Somi couldn’t even wait for Scott to finish rolling before showing off her putting skills. 😂⛳

Then, of course, we brought in our toughest quality-control inspector.

🐾 Gero approves.

Healthy greens. Minimal disruption. And yes — you can still play golf.

⛳️ HELP US MAKE A LITTLE WYANDOT HISTORY!

On September 1, we’re bringing a piece of 1978 back.

When Wyandot Golf Club opened in 1978, Hole 11 was designed as a par 4. Somewhere along the way, the original tee was abandoned and Hole 11 became a par 3.

This year, we rebuilt it.

On September 1, Hole 11 officially returns to a par 4, and we want to make its first drive a special one.

Wyandot was originally designed by Noah Salyers, part of a Central Ohio family with deep roots in golf course construction. We’re trying to locate his family—particularly his son John Salyers or grandson Gary Salyers—and invite them back to Wyandot for the reopening.

We need your help!

If you know John, Gary, or anyone in the Salyers family, tag them below, share this post, or send us a message.

We’d love nothing more than to have a member of the Salyers family step onto Hole 11 on September 1 and hit the first drive from the restored tee.
