We still can’t believe what happened last Saturday. 😭🔥

People started lining up at 5:30 PM a full hour before we were even allowed to open just for our donuts!

We officially started serving at 6:30 PM, and from then until 11 PM, we never stopped. At one point, the line stretched into three rows all the way toward Greene Square. 😳

And it wasn’t just the donuts our French tacos, noodles, and boba were huge hits too! ❤️

So many customers told us, “This is the longest line at the market!” Honestly, we were completely blown away.

We were exhausted by the end of the night, but our hearts were so full. 🥹❤️

Thank you, Cedar Rapids, for all the love and support. To everyone who waited, ordered, shared our food, and stopped by you made this night truly unforgettable. 🙏❤️

🌙✨ MARKET AFTER DARK IS THIS SATURDAY! ✨🌙

We’re bringing ALL the good stuff to Booth #32, right in front of the Library! 😍

And this time, we’re bringing a little taste of France with us! 🇫🇷❤️

A few years ago, we traveled to France to visit a friend, and they introduced us to French Tacos for the very first time. 🌮🇫🇷

I’m honestly a pretty picky eater, but I absolutely LOVED it! 😍

When we came home, we started creating our own version and making it for our family. After lots of testing and practicing, it became one of our family’s favorite meals. ❤️

Now, we’re so excited to share it with YOU!

I forgot my restaurant keys, and instead of opening at 8:00 a.m., I had to wait almost an hour. My mind was racing with everything that needed to get done, and I felt completely overwhelmed.

Then a group of kids from a cross-country camp stopped by after their run around NewBo. They waited patiently for donuts, and I had the chance to chat with them. Their kindness, smiles, and positive energy completely changed my mood.

Sometimes, all it takes is a few good people to remind you that a bad morning doesn’t have to become a bad day.

Thank you, kids. You have no idea how much you brightened my day. ❤️

Hi everyone! We’re back from vacation ☀️

During our trip, I got to try so many incredible dishes, which really inspired me to bring something new to Lu’s!

I’ve been back in the kitchen experimenting and perfecting our new Thai-inspired Poke Bowls. We’ll be offering:
🥢 Spicy Salmon
🥢 Teriyaki Chicken
🥢 Shrimp
🥢 Tofu (vegan option)

I’m also making all our signature sauces from scratch to give each bowl that special Lu’s touch.

I’ll be preparing a batch today, and if all goes well, we’re hoping to launch them later this week!

I first found Community Health Free Clinic while looking for a place that could help one of our employees. That’s where I met Michelle. I asked if most of the people working there were volunteers, and she told me that many of them are.

I was truly touched and grateful to see so many people generously giving their time, talents, and skills to care for those in need.

Although the clinic isn’t close to Lu’s, we’re proud to be part of the same community. We brought sandwiches from Lu’s as a small thank you to the amazing volunteers and staff for everything they do.

Thank you for making a difference in so many lives. We truly appreciate you! ❤️

It’s hard to believe we’ve already been at Lu’s for a month.

When we first came in, we were focused on the usual things food, coffee, sales, and figuring out how to make the business better. But over the last few weeks, we’ve realized that what makes Lu’s special isn’t the menu.

It’s the people.

There’s one customer who comes in every Tuesday for the tuna salad. Every week, without fail. It’s become part of our Tuesday routine, too.

There’s a husband and wife who stop by for donuts after feeding the neighborhood cats nearby. Seeing them walk through the door always makes us smile.

There’s a group that comes in after their workouts to relax, drink coffee, and catch up with each other. We jokingly call them the “Lu’s Swimming Team.” They bring so much energy and laughter into the space.

And then there’s a customer who orders a coffee, brings a book, and spends time reading out on the patio. Every time I see him sitting there, enjoying a quiet moment, it reminds me that sometimes people just need a comfortable place to slow down.

Over the past month, we’ve learned that a café isn’t really about coffee.

And it’s not really about sandwiches or donuts either.

It’s about routines.

It’s about friendships.

It’s about familiar faces.

It’s about having a place where people feel welcome.

Thank you to everyone who has stopped by, whether you’re here every day, once a week, or just happened to find us for the first time.

You may think you’re just grabbing breakfast or a cup of coffee.

But you’re helping create something much bigger a community.

And we’re grateful to be part of it.

Eight years ago, we brought our kids to the farmers market to learn how to work, serve customers, and earn money during the summer.

Our oldest daughter was only in 4th grade then. Today, she is heading to college, and the money we earned together over the years has helped with her college fund.
