What makes a great family meal?

Sometimes it's the food. Sometimes it's everyone actually eating the same thing. And sometimes it's discovering that when you speed up the video, your narration sounds like a chipmunk and suddenly everyone is laughing.

The best family meals usually aren't about perfection. They're the little moments you didn't expect to remember.

🍅What's a random little thing your family still laughs about?

🍴Quick Chicken Fried Rice Recipe

1 Chicken Breast (already cooked, cooled, and diced)
1 cup Rice (already cooked and cooled)
4 oz Carrot (slice on a bias)
1 Bell Pepper (diced)
3-4 Tbs Scallions (sliced)
Olive Oil and Butter
1-2 oz Soy Sauce
1 oz Sesame Oil

People are often surprised when we say this, but the number of people usually isn't the hard part.

The challenge is making sure everyone feels considered.

Different preferences.
Different dietary needs.
Different spice levels.
Different likes and dislikes.

That's where most of the planning happens.

Because feeding 20 people who all want the same thing can actually be pretty straightforward.

Feeding 10 people who all eat differently?

That's where things get interesting and where meal support can make all the difference.

What's the largest group you've ever had to feed? We'll share ours in the comments too.

Shopping day is where menus start turning into reality.

It's where planning becomes ingredients, ideas become meals, and cooking days start taking shape.

Some weeks are predictable and only include 1-2 stores.

Some weeks involve discovering new ingredients, multiple store stops, or trying something different.

Either way, shopping is one of those behind-the-scenes parts of the job that most people never see.

Today you're coming along for the ride.

Some meals feel like summer...
..this is one of them.

It immediately makes you think of a season.

A whole roasted chicken, and easy grilled veggie skewers cooked with summer flavors in mind.

Nothing overly complicated.

Just the kind of meal that encourages people to slow down, gather around the table, and enjoy being together.

One thing we've learned over the years is that some of the most memorable meals aren't built around complexity.

They're built around good ingredients, good company, and enough food for everyone to enjoy.

This is one of those meals for us.

🍅What's a meal that makes you immediately think of summer?

Sometimes the most important client isn't an adult.

It's the toddler.

Creating meals for young children often looks different than creating meals for everyone else.

Food may need to be softer, cut differently, or prepared with specific ingredients and safety in mind. And, of course, preferences can change quickly.

One day something is their favorite.

The next day it suddenly isn't.

That's why customization often includes the youngest people at the table. Especially when they are on vacation and still need meals they can enjoy.

Because when meals work for the whole family, everyone benefits.

What's one food your toddler or child loved one week and refused the next?

07/14/2026

As chefs, we've learned that food preferences are exactly that: Preferences.

Not facts.

Not everyone will love every meal.

Not everyone likes the same flavors, textures, or ingredients.

And honestly?

That's perfectly okay.

Because feeding people isn't about making everyone like the same things.

It's about understanding that everyone is different.

What's one food you'll never be convinced to like?

One of the most important tools in our kitchen isn't necessarily the one you would think of.

It's a prep list.

Every cooking day starts with a plan.

Prep lists help us organize ingredients, prioritize tasks, keep track of details, and make sure nothing gets missed.

The smoother a cooking day looks, the more planning usually happened beforehand.

It's not glamorous.

But it's one of the systems that makes everything else possible.

When you think about vacation meals, what may come to mind is to think about the food eaten.

The reality is that the food is only part of it.

What you remember most is who you shared those meals with.

The conversations.

The stories.

The laughs around the table.

The moments when everyone slows down for a little while.

Good food helps create those moments.

But the people are what make them memorable.

🔥What's one thing you don't want to think about on vacation?

The business is important. The meals are important. The clients are important. But...

At the end of the day, this is why we do it.

One thing becoming parents taught us is that time moves faster than you think it will.

The schedules, deadlines, events, and responsibilities will always be there.

The moments with family don't wait.

Finding a balance isn't always easy.

But we're learning that some of the most important things happen outside the kitchen.

07/09/2026

This video pretty much sums it up. Meal prep on one side.

A baby and dogs wanting kale on the other.

Real life doesn't pause because you made a plan. That's why most meal plans don't fail because people aren't disciplined.

They fail because they weren't built for real life in the first place. Most plans offered are built around 1 person or family's reality. Not your family's reality.

🍓Not every favorite meal is dinner. Sometimes it's dessert.

This berry tart has become one of those desserts that people continue to request for private dinners and onsite experiences.

It's simple, beautiful, and the kind of dessert that feels special without being overly complicated.

One thing we've learned from private dining is that guests often remember the entire experience, not just one course.

But every now and then a dessert becomes part of the reason they remember the evening.

This is one of those desserts.

One of the challenges with nutrition advice is that it often assumes everyone has the same goals.

But high protein can look very different depending on the person.

Someone training for a marathon may need something different than a parent trying to stay consistent with meals during a busy week.

Someone focused on strength training may need something different than someone simply trying to eat more balanced meals.

That's why we don't believe in one perfect meal plan.

The goal is figuring out what works for your lifestyle, preferences, and goals, like having high protein meals even if your diet is vegetarian.

Because the best meal plan is usually the one you can actually stick with.

🍴What does your custom meal plan need to have?

07/07/2026

Spoiler Alert: Chefs use convenience foods too.

Depending on the week or day, we have sometimes gotten towards the end of it realizing we haven't eaten anything or we have just had back to back clients and calls. By the time we get home, feed our kids and get them to bed all we want is something that takes not time, effort or thinking.

Because sometimes the best meal isn't the one that's made completely from scratch. It's the back up meal sitting and waiting for those evenings when you need something that takes almost no time at all.

Some nights are a homemade meal. Some nights it looks like instant noodles with a few additions.

Because the goal isn't perfection. The goal is eating something.

What's your favorite convenience meal or ingredient?

Most people think shopping starts when we walk into the grocery store.

For us, it starts after we finish updating client feedback.

Every shopping list is built aroundmenu planning, client notes, dietary needs, ingredient overlap, schedules, and cooking plans.

By the time we actually start shopping, most of the decisions have already been made. The shopping list is really the final result of dozens of smaller decisions that happened beforehand.

It's one of those behind-the-scenes processes that nobody sees, but it helps make cooking days run smoothly.

🔥What's something that is always on your shopping list?

As chefs, we appreciate complicated dishes.

We appreciate technique, creativity, and all the little details that go into an elaborate meal.

But real life has taught us the meals that get made over and over again usually aren't the most complicated.

They're the meals that fit into busy schedules.

The meals made from ingredients already in the house.

The meals everyone will actually eat.

The meals that still work when the day doesn't go according to plan.

Not because they're boring, because they're reliable.

And when life gets busy, reliable is often exactly what you need.

Over the years, we've learned that feeding families isn't really about making perfect meals.

It's about making meals that work for real life. The meal everyone actually eats is sometimes the biggest win.

Simple meals are really just normal everyday meals. Convenience foods are helpful. A little chaos around the table is most families' norm.

No two families do meals exactly the same way, because no family dynamic is exactly the same.

What's one meal your family never seems to get tired of?

When people think about content creation, they usually think about recording and editing.
Which is just a small part of the content plan for our socials every month.

•Ideas.
•Planning.
•Organizing.
•Looking for patterns.
•Deciding what actually matters.
•Figuring out what footage we already have and what still needs to be created.

By the time we start editing, we have already mapped out how every piece will fit into the months' work.

The planning process has become the most important part as we've worked to create content more consistently without constantly feeling like we're starting from scratch. It also allows us to get so much more done in a smaller time frame.

The camera may capture the content, but it's only a fraction of the work behind the scenes creating.

🔥What part of the process surprised you most?

Looking back on where business started can be seen in a number of ways.

The first client.

The big opportunities.

The progress in growing full time.

What can sometimes be hidden are the years in between where growth feels slow.

The seasons where you're showing up, doing the work, and wondering if any of it is making a difference, because it definitely doesn't look like it from your side of things.

Looking back, some of the most important growth happened way before we could see any results.

It happened when we kept going. Learning, adjusting, making mistakes, improving, and simply continuing.

Most days growth just looks like showing up again tomorrow to do all the things.

💗If this is where you are today, we see you.

One of the reasons families hire personal chefs isn't just because you want someone else to cook.

It's because you want one less thing to think about. You want time back to focus on the things that matter most.

Knowing meals are already planned, prepared, and ready can make a busy week feel a little more manageable.

That's what this week looks like.

Meals handled.

Ready when they're needed.

07/02/2026

One of the interesting things about food is that very little is completely new.

We learn from the chefs, cooks, and creators who came before us.

We adapt ideas.
We put our own spin on things.
We create new versions.

That's part of what makes food and creativity so special.

In a world where so many choose to be mean, it's surprisingly easy to choose kindness instead.

❤️Whose cooking or creativity has inspired you over the years?

One of the biggest misconceptions about organization is that it's supposed to prevent problems.

It doesn't.

Schedules change.
Plans shift.
Life happens.

Organization isn't about making everything go perfectly. It's about making it easier to adjust when things don't. A good system doesn't remove the chaos. It just gives you a better way to work through it when it inevitably happens.

🔥What's one system or habit that makes your life easier when things get busy?

Meals People Love: Berry Salad

If you could only pick one meal to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be?

For Melissa, it's salads.

And yes, we realize that's probably not the answer most people would give.

But it does mean that we take our salads seriously around here.

This berry salad is one of those recipes that never disappoints. It's fresh, flavorful, packed with bright summer berries and proof that salad doesn't have to boring to be a favorite.

The point is that everyone has meals they keep coming back to.

This just happens to be one of ours.

07/01/2026

One of the biggest misconceptions about dietary needs is that every meal has to be completely reinvented.

Sometimes that's true.

But often, it comes down to making a few thoughtful adjustments while keeping the overall meal intact.

That's one of the reasons we spend so much time learning about preferences, restrictions, allergies, and household needs before creating menus.

The goal isn't to make someone feel like they're eating a completely different menu from everyone else.

The goal is to create meals that work for their needs while still feeling enjoyable, familiar, and varied.

A lot of customization happens in the details.

This meal is a great example. We made it with one of closest friends in mind, who eats gluten free. She was able to enjoy the exact same meal we were having because it was planned around her needs from the start.

The details make all the difference.
