Mother’s Day at Kumo 🌷

For one day only, Yukiya Bakery will be bringing their homemade 菓子パン (kashi pan) bundle boxes to Shinmai Kumo for a special pop up event.

Kashi pan are Japanese sweet breads filled with ingredients like anko (red bean), custard cream, cinnamon, and other nostalgic flavors many grew up with in Japan. Soft, comforting, and made to be shared.

Yukie, owner of Yukiya Bakery, will also be onsite for a meet and greet throughout the event. Guests will have the opportunity to learn more about these wonderful Japanese baked goods, hear how Yukiya Bakery first began in her own kitchen making bread for her children, and how that passion slowly grew into sharing her baking with local communities through farmers markets across the Triangle area.

This will also be a rare opportunity to purchase these special kashi pan bundle boxes while dining at Kumo, as they will not be available anywhere else.

In addition, dine in guests who order any of our sandos made with Yukiya’s shokupan (Japanese milk bread) will receive a special collaboration gift certificate featuring offers for both Shinmai Kumo and Yukiya Bakery.

We’re really excited to share this small piece of Japanese bakery culture with everyone this Mother’s Day weekend 🌷

Something we’ve been quietly putting together, in celebration of Mother’s Day❤️

This Sunday, we’re hosting a pop-up event with , built around their shokupan (Japanese milk bread) sandos we’ve been serving at Kumo.

📆 Sunday May 10th, 11 am - 2:30 pm
🥳Special giveaway bundles from Yukiya Bakery to take home when dine in at Kumo🥳

Yukie is also a mother who started Yukiya from her own kitchen, making bento boxes with her breads for her children.

This collaboration is a small nod to the care and consistency behind that kind of everyday work, for her and for all the hardworking mothers we’re celebrating.

Join us this Sunday to enjoy some truly special Japanese breads and get to know the story behind Yukiya Bakery. Follow her to catch where she’ll be next at the farmers markets.

Our bar is now open, and the menu leans a little playful, a little unexpected.

Cocktails that start familiar, then wander just enough:

✨Aperol Spritz - a classic bright and easy cocktail
🍓Ichigo Hana Spritz - wonderful combo of strawberry and gin
🍊Sweet Clementine Sour - soft and citrusy with a airy egg white
☕️Espresso Martini for late nights that turn into longer ones
🍯Golden Embers - mezcal, white miso, and yuzu honey. (OooOolala!)
🥃Date Night - whiskey with housemade date puree

A different kind of sando, built on a different kind of bread.

These ones start with French baguettes, crisp on the outside, a little more chew, and a little more contrast.

- Smoked salmon
- Prosciutto burrata (served with side salad)
- Bacon ham & egg (served with a salad + cup of mushroom dashi soup)

Not as soft as the milk breads, but that’s kind of the point.

Also part of our intro series through 4/15, we are offering these sandos at an intro price. The smoked salmon and the bacon ham & egg sando for $8.90, and the prosciutto burrata for $9.90. Please see our previous post for more info.

Soft things have been quietly taking over the table in April.

Our milk bread sandos are built on shokupan from Yukiya Bakery, made by Yukie, a Japanese baker whose milk bread has just the right balance of structure and tenderness. Soft, but not fragile. Simple, but it carries everything.

Strawberry or Pistachio with fresh cream
Egg soufflé
Crispy shrimp patty

We’re running these at an intro price through 4/15 - strawberry or pistachio for $4.90, and egg soufflé or shrimp patty at $7.90.

Built on milk bread (shokupan) from Yukia Bakery by Yukie, a local baker originally from Japan. Each loaf is made with great care, fluffy, pillowy, the kind that almost melts before you even finish the bite.

Milk breads
2 sweet with fresh cream: strawberry, pistachio
2 savory: egg soufflé, crispy shrimp patty (served with mushroom dashi soup)

Also, 3 savory sandos on crisp French baguette
Smoked Salmon
Prosciutto Burrata
