Good Morning Facebook Friends!
I hope all of you have had a wonderful time celebrating our 250th anniversary of this great country we call Home!
As I was thinking about dinner menus this week it struck me that this is the busiest time of the year for people in America to head out on the All American Road trip. Oh I remember those Summer vacations when Mother and Daddy would pack up their usually new big Huge Cadillac ( which looked more like a Land Yacht) and we would head out on an Epic road trip. Such great memories! Unfortunately this Summer the Parr Family will not be heading out on any Epic road-trip but it sure doesn’t mean that we can dream about one. And of course that means stopping along the way at all the big cities in America and eating like the locals and experiencing what makes each American city around our beautiful country unique.
So this month July we are going to celebrate America each week with a road trip and introduce you to some great regional cuisine.
Our 1st trip will start this week and we’re heading out from Dallas and going all the way up the East Coast to Boston. On Monday we driving East through Texas into Arkansas, right after you pass Little Rock you start seeing signs on the I 40 advertising Catfish houses in every little town. We’re stopping right outside of Memphis on the Arkansas Side. ( that’s where my Daddy grew up) he could walk down to the Mississippi River and we’re having Catfish. Nothing like Catfish on the Mississippi Delta. I’m oven baking it to make it just a little more healthy. We’re even doing Green Tomato Relish on the side. A must have condiment. This dinner is literally a treasured Childhood memory.
Tuesday we’re continuing our drive up the East Coast and making our next Stop in Philadelphia. This is where it all began. You won’t see Catfish on every menu in town but what you will see is the World Famous Philly Cheese Steak.
There’s a reason it’s famous! So good, tender braised Beef , Bell Peppers and Grilled Onions with American Cheese. Seriously such a great Sandwich. And then of course we have to have Philadelphia Cream Cheese Cheesecake for dessert!
Wednesday getting back on the road and heading to New York City. And even though NYC is famous for so many amazing cuisines. Nothing is ,
more New York than Italian American Sunday Dinners. And that’s what we’re having on Wednesday. A trip is never complete for me without a stop in Little Italy 🇮🇹 on Mulberry Street. Here is where you will find the heart of American Italian cooking. Our Menu will start with a big Italian Salad with my homemade Italian dressing. Then Rigatoni and Chicken Parm.
For dessert it has to be a Chocolate Chip Cannoli?
Thursday we finally make it to our last East Coast City on this trip. We’re pulling into Boston. Boston is such a food city. So many fantastic restaurants and neighborhoods. But I can never think about Boston without thinking about the classic American Dinners that were invented there. We’ll start with a Boston Bibb Salad. The most tender lettuce. As a main course it has to be slow roasted Boston Butt Roast with Bacon and Molasses. Then those traditional Boston baked Beans, Parker House Rolls invented in Boston and for dessert A Boston Cream Pie also invented there. Gosh is this road-trip going to be fun. So if you’re not on your own Summer Vacation hop in the Car with us and eat your way across America.
