New artist call! ✍️ Chapel Hill is searching for its next Poet Laureate!

Our Poet Laureate serves as an ambassador for poetry, fostering connections between all kinds of writers, poets, and creatives to enrich Chapel Hill’s social and civic life. If you love inspiring creativity and building community through poetry, this role might be for you.

Term & compensation:
🔹 2-year appointment: Jan 2027 - Dec 2028
🔹 $6,000 stipend for selected poet
🔹 $200/finalist for proposals & interviews

Typical responsibilities:
🔹 Write poems for community moments
🔹 Perform at festivals, events, & council meetings
🔹 Create community poetry experiences
🔹 Facilitate workshops or trainings
🔹 Meet regularly with Town staff

Eligibility:
🔹 Poets 18+ with little, some, or substantial work published & active projects in the last 5 years
🔹 Must have a personal or professional connection to Chapel Hill, NC
🔹 Residency in Chapel Hill preferred, but not required
