Polar Bear began in 1975 as a small ice cream shop located on Soquel Ave in Santa Cruz, CA. After 30 years, it's flagship scoop shop closed but Polar Bear continued to make ice cream in small batches, serving up that homemade taste in various restaurants and dipping shops in Capitola and Santa Cruz County. The recipes have never changed over the years and are still made using all-natural and local

ly sourced ingredients, churned right here in Santa Cruz. Today, Polar Bear is scooped in Capitola on the Esplanade, finding it's way back home to the same spot it had been many years ago.

Polar Bear Turns 50! Come join our celebration--all day today at our scoop shop. There’s a magic in the air today around Capitola Village—a kind of charm that draws you in, feels like home, and leaves you with memories you’ll cherish. Polar Bear Ice Cream first opened its doors at 104 Stockton Avenue in the mid-1970s. Since then, it’s been a constant in Capitola’s ever-changing landscape. Capitola’s charm, action, and beach vibe make it the perfect place to call home. We’ve been lucky enough to call this spot home for so long.
