The idea for Cravings started back in 2019 when we overheard a group sitting on the beach in Cape Charles ask, “Is there just a quick sandwich place around here?”
That one little comment stuck with us 🤔
Margaret had already spent years as a pastry chef and baker and earned a degree in Hospitality Management from East Carolina University 🏴☠️ so the dream quickly started feeling real. Matt said “let’s open our own place”
In 2020, we took the leap. Quit our jobs, developed recipes, designed & built a commercial kitchen, moved to the shore and opened Cravings in July 2021.
Our grab-and-go setup is different. It keeps things quick, consistent, and fresh — because quality has always mattered more to us than quantity. We make as much as we can every single day, and when we sell out, it truly means we worked as hard as we possibly could.
Most mornings start around 5 AM 😴 Bread is baked, meats are sliced, chicken is roasted, cookies are baked, sauces are mixed, and our tiny kitchen gets filled with as much fresh food as we can possibly make before opening the doors at 10:30.
On busy summer days, our little kitchen can send out 150+ sandwiches, 30 pounds of chicken salad, and dozens of cookies before we sell out.
Being closed Sunday and Monday gives us time to rest, reset, and recharge and be ready for the new week and new wave of customers.
