We want to sincerely thank everyone who has shared their memories, stories, and kind words about our father, Papa Joe Ochoa, and A.M. (Bub) Barnes.

Reading your comments has reminded us just how many lives they touched through friendship, generosity, and a shared dream that became Ochoa’s Mexican Restaurant. Without Bub Barnes believing in our father’s talent and helping him open that first little building, the Ochoa legacy may have never begun.

We are truly grateful for the love, support, and encouragement you continue to show our family. Most of all, thank you for choosing to dine with us and allowing us to continue serving our community with the same homemade recipes and family values that Papa Ochoa believed in.

Here is the man who believed in our father—A.M. “Bub” Barnes. Our family will be forever grateful for the faith he had in Papa Ochoa.

Bub Barnes would often come into El Chico, where he fell in love with the food. After tasting the dishes, he asked, “Who is the cook?” He was so impressed with our father’s talent and passion that he believed in his dream.

Bub Barnes helped make that dream a reality by helping fund Joe Ochoa’s dream of owning his own restaurant. Because of his belief and support, Ochoa’s legacy was established—a legacy that has brought families together around great food for generations.

Thank you, A.M. (Bub) Barnes, for believing in Papa Ochoa and helping make a dream come true.

This is the man who started it all. ❤️ established 1969

This is Papa Joe Ochoa, the man whose dream, hard work, and dedication built the foundation of the Ochoa’s legacy.

From a small restaurant with just five tables and six booths, he created more than a successful business—he created a family tradition rooted in homemade recipes, quality food, and treating every customer like family.

Papa Ochoa believed that every meal should be made with love, every customer should be welcomed like a guest in his home, and that hard work and integrity were the keys to success.

Today, his legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, and everyone who continues to honor the values and recipes he passed down.
