May is a busy month! Last week, we honored all the wonderful moms in our community. This week, we’re celebrating the graduating seniors across Van Zandt County.

We wish every senior the very best as they step into what comes next.

Today, we want to give a special shoutout to someone very close to our hearts: Vanessa Zarate, who is graduating from Canton High School tonight.

Vanessa has been with Jerry’s since her Freshman year. When she first came in to interview, she brought her mom with her and was so shy she could barely speak. Somewhere along the way, that quiet freshman grew into a confident, capable young woman with a sharp wit and a dry sense of humor that keeps us laughing. Watching her growth over the years has been a true joy. As a band student, Vanessa knows what hard work looks like. She has balanced school, band, faith, family and work with dedication, and we are incredibly proud of all she has accomplished.

Vanessa will be attending TJC in Tyler, where she plans to study to become a teacher.

Congratulations, Vanessa. Thank you for growing up with us. 🎓❤️

In lead up to Mother's Day...

🌷 A Mother’s Day Reflection 🌷

If you’re a Jerry’s OG, you know my mom, Jo Ann. My dad’s name is on the sign—but it was my mom who made Jerry’s what it is.

I’ve always been close with her, and I don’t take for granted the time I get with her now. Being able to show up for her in the ways she needs means more to me than I can really put into words.

She taught me so much—about life, about business, and about what it means to carry responsibility well. She had clear boundaries, at home and at work. For many years, she wasn’t just my mom, she was my boss.

And she was a work mom to so many of us. She set the standard. You knew what she expected, and you wanted to meet it, not out of fear, but out of respect. She was tough, but she was fun. And people loved her for both.

Some of my best memories were made working alongside her at Jerry’s.

She worked harder than anyone I’ve ever known. And the truth is, that kind of dedication came at a cost. She sacrificed time, energy, and pieces of herself along the way. But she believed deeply in what this place meant.

The restaurant wasn’t just a business to her.
It was a place for people.

A place where families gathered. Where stories were shared. Where memories were made. I know that because I hear your stories every day.

I don’t know that she ever set out to create something like that—but she did.

And I’m grateful. Grateful for what she taught me.
Grateful for what she built. And grateful to carry it forward.

For the same reasons she poured herself into this place, I feel a deep responsibility—and an honor—to keep it alive for the families who love Jerry’s.

Because of you, we’ve been named Best Pizza in Van Zandt County for the 11th consecutive year.

That kind of consistency doesn’t happen by accident. It comes from decades of support, loyalty, and trust from the people we serve every day.

This year means even more to us as we celebrate 50 years in business. Half a century of Friday nights, family dinners, team celebrations, and familiar faces walking through our doors. That’s something we never take for granted.
