Carmela and Charlie Bono started their Pizza adventure in October 1988, when they invested in a small pizza and sub shop in the heart of Wilmington, Delaware. Charlie’s Pizzaman was known for its phenomenal pizza, scrumptious sandwiches, creamy, classic cheesecake and friendly atmosphere. It was a glorious start to their love affair with food. There they stayed until October 2000, when they opened their new Italian Ristorante, Café Luna. At Café Luna (Wilmington, Delaware), Charlie and Carmela were able to give their customers a real taste of what Italian food is. They had 8 lovely tables where diners could sit and enjoy a good meal after a hard day! Some of your favorites are still on the menu today. Café Luna was their pride and joy. They were able to really focus on homemade sauces, soups, and hearty dishes to please every palate. Their 3 children worked with them to build a wonderful business. Marianna waited tables; Michael cleaned and restocked; Stefano made pizza. Alas, the economy fell and running a business became impossible. Charlie and Carmela locked their doors in February 2009, vowing to open a bigger, better, place when the time was right. Carmela’s Cucina opened March 1, 2012 in Cambridge, Maryland. Right away, Charlie and Carmela felt right at home. They love being able to see their happy customers enjoy a home-cooked Italian meal or a freshly baked pizza. They serve their customers like they would serve their family; big portions, fresh ingredients, and lots of love. Carmela’s Cucina, literally means Carmela’s Kitchen. Charlie and Carmela relocated the restaurant to have more parking, a standalone building and more

Well, folks… apparently we have ourselves a pizza scandal.

After 14 years in business, we thought we’d seen just about everything. Tonight we learned we were wrong.

A customer ordered a half-and-half pizza and two desserts. His wife messaged us afterward because she was confused about the price.

Fair question.

We explained how our half-and-half pizzas are priced, showed her the actual itemized receipt, and she even told us the pizza and desserts were good.

We thought that was the end of it.

Enter: The Professional Pizza Baker.

Her husband then messaged us to announce that he is, in fact, a professional pizza baker. Not just any pizza baker either. Apparently a man with enough pizza experience that we should immediately reconsider 14 years of operating our own restaurant.

What followed was a thoughtful and professional culinary discussion featuring such industry terminology as:

“F**kers.”

“Amateurs.”

“Assholes.”

“Do you have any morals?”

And our personal favorite:

“I’m going to trash you far and wide.”

Naturally, when someone threatens to embark on a nationwide campaign against Carmela’s over a pizza, we take the matter seriously.

So we went back and checked the order.

Original total: $50.44

Then we entered the pizza the way our new unpaid pizza consultant insisted it should have been entered.

New total: $49.94

Ladies and gentlemen…

We have located the missing 50 cents.

Somewhere between Cambridge and Ocean City, two quarters apparently became a matter of morality, professional integrity, 14 years of restaurant experience, several F-bombs, and a promise to trash us across the internet.

We sincerely apologize to the American pizza community during this difficult time.

For anyone wondering, we’re always happy to explain our prices. If we make a mistake, we’ll fix it. If you think we’re too expensive, that’s okay too. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from, and we genuinely understand.

But if you’re going to call our staff fu***rs, amateurs and as****es, question our morals, threaten our business, and then announce your credentials as a professional pizza baker…

We’re probably going to show the receipts.

Literally.

Anyway, crisis averted. The 50 cents has been accounted for. Carmela’s will keep doing what we do best!
