Camie’s Bakery and Restaurant has been a fixture in the Cambridge, MA culinary community for almost 25yrs. Camie’s first opened its doors on December 31, 1992 as the first Haitian bakery in Cambridge where residents were introduced to traditional Carribean baked goods and confectionary treats such as sweet potato and molasses breads, cookies and special occasion cakes. Camie’s quickly thrived as a
neighborhood bakery delighting Cantabrigians with unique pastries and sweets and the item that would soon put Camie’s “on the map”- her scrumptious patties, a delectable savory fish/meat-filled turnover that is one of a kind in flavor. With its growing success and notoriety, Camie’s relocated to a larger facility in 1994 and broadened its scope of appetizing fare introducing the public to regional delicacies such as AK-100- a rich delectable cornmeal shake, the ever-popular Haitian lemonade and expanded to a full service restaurant. That same year, Camie’s debuted catering services for large private parties, presenting a wide array of scrumptious meals and snacks that are quintessentially Caribbean. The impetus behind this move was the desire to share the diverse cuisine of the Caribbean to a new population as well as serve a thriving Caribbean community with familiar dishes with the flavors of home. This venture has proven to be yet another advantageous enterprise as the restaurant has garnered a very loyal following of satisfied and well fed customers with signature dishes of fried pork with rice and beans, braised goat with rice and beans, and the consummate favorite and famous weekly special black mushroom (D-jon D-jon) rice which always sells out. As an established entity in the community, Camie’s has participated in many local festivals such as the Caribbean Food Festival and Oktoberfest, adding diversity and richness to the haven of world cuisine Cambridge is known for. In 1997, due to the tremendous popularity and increased demand of her acclaimed bread, Camie’s once again expanded to other aspects of the business and began to sell her delicious hearty Haitian bread in 10 local supermarkets, solidifying her niche as a premier Haitian bakery. Camie’s drive and maxim has always been and continues to be to provide delicious authentic meals with fresh ingredients reminiscent of the foods of home and to have the name Camie’s be synonymous with the essence of the Caribbean.
