Dear Friends, Family, Supporters of the ABC,
I have sat down to write this letter 5 different times. It’s a hard one to finish. We have officially decided to not re-open the Atomic Bean Cafe. After 12 years of service, it took a pandemic to shut our doors, and that is something to be proud of.
No one said running a small business is easy, and it was truly a labor of love. We have met the smartest, funniest, passionate folks from all around the globe within those 4 walls. Some we even get to take away with us as friends. We have laughed together, cried together, danced to 90’s music all day, and we thank you for it. I will miss warming up slices of ham for our favorite 4 legged customers, inventing new muffins or croissants to serve up daily, and yes, even hearing people argue politics with Dave! It was truly a place to gather, discuss, invent, and leave your mark. You have all done just that. Without our regulars the Bean just wouldn’t have been the same. One of our most treasured regulars (shout-out to you Patrick!) said that he once heard the Bean described as this…“It reminds you of your favorite coffee shop from home, wherever home might be” and THAT my friends is what the Bean meant to so many, including me. You have watched us grow as people, and as a family. I felt such a warm sense of community when I was pregnant with Charlie, it knocked me off my feet. You were all so genuinely happy for us and supportive. Handing a customer my baby over the counter to hold while I made their latte (because c’mon safety!) is a cherished memory. We really did become that Mom and Pop shop in every sense of the word!
So what I am trying to say is….Thank you for choosing to support us and for being our friends. We will continue to root for you from afar! We love you all and wish peace and love, peace and love to the People’s Republic of Cambridge.
Xoxo
Ginny, Dave, and Charlie
