Over the past few weeks I have wanted to write about authentic leadership. This week authentic leadership was intertwined with the law of reciprocity. During an interaction with a customer this past week, a hotel manager met a customer who was looking for a specific item. An item that many customers before this individual had previously stated that they wanted. However, this customer was different, his kindness was genuine (authentic), this genuine kindness intrigued the hotel manager enough that he went out to retrieve the item for the customer. When he manager saw the customer again, he presented him with the item that he was looking for. It was a gift. A gesture of kindness.
This is where the law of reciprocity avails. Authentic leadership, which is honest, legitimate and genuine often influences reciprocity (mutual action, kindness and gestures). The manager refused compensation for the gift; therefore the customer gifted the manager with a gift too!
Remember this in your daily interactions. What you put out, you will receive in return!
