Beansie's Bus

Beansie's Bus cooking up our incomparable fries & Michigans. The business has been occupying the same spot since it opened in 1944.

Opened in 1944 in a retrofitted school bus, this seasonal restaurant sits at the northwest corner of Battery Park in Burlington, Vermont from April to September. While the world around us has changed significantly, Beansie's has not been altered much. Beansie's has seen 13 presidents, a man land on the moon and five wars. Burlingtonians used to be able to drive through Battery Park and get a bit

rowdy after dark while the bus stayed cooking late into the night. While that is no longer the case (as the park closes at dusk), Beansie's still trundles out every spring to herald the coming of summer and warmer weather. The current bus is a 1969 model, and the third throughout the years to be christened "Beansie's Bus." Many who grew up in Burlington have moved on, and so our name is recognized by native Vermonters the world over. Due to of our well-known status, we were chosen by the producers to appear in the Farrelly Brothers' comedy Me, Myself & Irene. It is our honor to continue the institution that has been kept alive by the Burlington community for 69 years. We look forward to every summer with anticipation, and are thrilled to see our regulars return, and new customers arrive. It is truly amazing to see grandparents and parents introduce their children and grandchildren to us. It is a tradition that traverses generations. It is our hope that all customers feel welcomed and appreciated when they arrive at they bus, and that they feel as if they are living in history. Thank you for allowing us to serve you for nearly 70 years. It has been, and continues to be, our pleasure.

So every day at the bus is different and yesterday sure was one of those days . One moment you're watching a mother duck leading 11 ducklings around and filming a sweet scene, and then suddenly three of the babies fall into a storm drain. You can’t imagine how quickly that shifted from adorable to stressful.
It's good that I was taping them and noticed right away and tried to help. Calling the non-emergency line was a smart move. The Burlington Fire Department and BPD responded and were able to rescue the 3 baby ducklings.
