Main Street Revitalization — A Note on Parking

You may have noticed construction in our neighborhood — Buffalo City Hall is currently leading a redevelopment and revitalization project along Main Street. Because of this work, street parking near Penny’s will be limited for the time being.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. The good news is that once complete, our neighborhood will be even more beautiful and comfortable for everyone. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation while this important work is underway.

Bread & Wine: 8,000 Years of Georgian Heritage at Your Table

At Penny’s Coffee Shop, we often talk about food as more than just what’s on the plate — it’s history, identity, and connection. As founders from the country of Georgia, we are especially proud to share pieces of our heritage with the Buffalo community every day.

This week, we want to highlight a truly remarkable discovery that connects directly to our roots.

A shared birthplace of bread and wine

Georgia is widely recognized as the birthplace of wine, with more than 8,000 years of winemaking history. Archaeological discoveries have confirmed that the earliest known evidence of grape wine production was found in Georgia, making it one of the oldest continuous winemaking cultures in the world.

In fact, ancient Georgian winemaking traditions — including fermentation in large clay vessels known as qvevri — are still practiced today, connecting modern winemakers directly to their Neolithic ancestors.

Even more recently, in April 2026, scientists announced an extraordinary archaeological discovery in Georgia: the oldest known domesticated bread wheat, also dating back approximately 8,000 years, placing the origins of bread cultivation in the same region where wine first emerged.

Why this matters to us

As Georgians, this is something we are deeply proud of. The idea that two of humanity’s most essential and symbolic products — bread and wine — may have first been introduced by ancient Georgians over 8,000 years ago is both powerful and humbling.

It speaks to a long tradition of hospitality, agriculture, and craftsmanship that still defines Georgian culture today.

Yesterday we said goodbye to our sweet Penny 💔🐾

Many of you know our shop was named after her, but to us she was so much more than that. She was part of our family, our comfort on hard days, and the reason behind so many smiles.
Penny had the gentlest soul and the kind of presence you don’t forget. She was there from the very beginning, quietly shaping what this place would become.
We’ll miss her more than words can say, but we’re so grateful for every moment we had with her.
