To everyone who has ever been told to make themselves smaller so others could feel comfortable: never, EVER do it. This message is for you:
The comments on our recent Pride post were a painful reminder that hate still walks among us. Loudly. Proudly. Unapologetically.
But so do you.
For years, Misuta Chow’s was more than a restaurant. It was a gathering place. A refuge. A home away from home where people from every walk of life could sit at the same table, share a meal, laugh together, celebrate together, and simply be themselves.
That will always be what we stand for.
We will never apologize for supporting our LGBTQ+ family. We will never apologize for believing that every human being deserves dignity, respect, safety, and love. And we will never make room for hatred masquerading as morality.
Pride exists because generations of people were told they should hide, be ashamed, or disappear. Pride is the answer to that darkness. It is joy in the face of rejection. Love in the face of fear. Visibility in the face of erasure.
To those who feel targeted, attacked, or exhausted by the cruelty of others: we see you. We love you. We stand with you.
And to those who choose hate, know this: your voices may be loud, but they will never be louder than a community built on love.
The arcade may be quiet this year. The lights may be dim. But the spirit of this community burns as brightly as ever.
Today, this month, and every day after, we celebrate you exactly as you are.
Happy Pride, Buffalo.
