Christmas at Roots Cafe – A Tradition of Gratitude and Joy

Christmas at Roots is something we cherish more each year. Patricia uses her dad’s beloved waffle recipe to make batch after batch, topping them with fresh fruit and whipped cream, or adding in savory additions. We serve them up alongside hot coffee to everyone who stops by.

It’s our way of saying thank you for all the joy you bring to us throughout the year and sharing a little holiday cheer with our neighbors.

We’d love for you to join us this year for free waffles and coffee on Christmas Day from 9:30AM to 2:30 PM. Stay for board games, catch up with old friends, or make some new ones.

We are so excited to support our friends at Mixteca with their Back to School Fair! We are currently collecting school supplies for 350 kids! (Link in bio)

You can drop off school supplies at Roots during our regular business hours, or volunteer to help sort, pack backpacks, decorate for the fair, or donate your special talents! We are looking for balloon animals, giant bubbles, and Magic!!

A Roots Cafe Thanksgiving Tradition

This Thanksgiving, we’re honored to celebrate 7 years of opening Roots Cafe to share free slices of pie and coffee with our Brooklyn neighbors!

For some, the holiday is a time to gather with family far from the city—but for many of us, Thanksgiving happens right here at home, in the heart of our NYC community. Whether you’ve chosen to stay in town or find yourself without traditional plans, we’d love to welcome you into a space where everyone belongs.

Stop by to enjoy a slice of free pie and a hot coffee, whether it’s on your way to a quiet day, running errands, or just looking for a friendly face. Stay for a chat, take your pie to go, or simply soak in the company of others in a neighborhood that feels like home.

We’ll be open from 9 AM to 2 PM, serving our regular menu and creating space for connection, kindness, and community. Join us—we’d love to share this day with you.

Many of you know Emily. She has been there to greet you in the morning. She remembers your kids' names. She is always ready to listen. She has a sparkle of joy and playful creativity in her eyes.

Recently, and unexpectedly, her father died.

We are joining the fundraiser to cover unexpected costs, and to support Emily's mother in this time of grief
