"Archer Harman, the North American who united the coast and the Ecuadorian highlands"

The railway line, which would unite the Coast with the Ecuadorian Sierra, was built by the North American Archer Harman, who began the work using indigenous and black workers

The work culminated with the arrival of the train at the Chimbacalle station in Quito, on June 25, 1908, and was officially inaugurated with a great national civic festival. On August 26, 1957, the railway was extended with the Quito - San Lorenzo section (373.4 kilometers) and constituted a modernizing impulse for the country.
